Mastercam X7 System Requirements

http://www.emastercam.com/board/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages&section=pages&id=2&record=45

You can reach the system requirements page here.

A few things to note:

Mastercam X7 requires Windows 7 or newer to run. That is to say you have to be running Windows 7 32bit, Windows 7 64bit, Windows 8 32bit or Windows 8 64bit. All previous versions (Vista, XP and older) are not supported.

While versions exist for 32bit and 64bit versions of Windows 7/8, if your hardware supports it and you have a choice, the 64bit version is recommended.

The chart leaves processor selection open however having at least a dual core processor will help immensely as Mastercam has come a long way towards effectively using multi-core hardware.

The minimum monitor resolution is 1280x1024. Note that some widescreen laptops that use 1280x800, 1366x768 or even 1440x900 do not meet the minimum height requirement.

If you have questions specific to your situation, feel free to ask in the forums.

Determining whether you have Windows 32bit or 64bit

Windows 8:

Step 1: Open the Power User Menu by pressing the WIN (windows) key and the X key together.

Step 2: Locate the area titled "View basic information about your computer" under the Windows 8 logo. The System type will say either 64-bit Operating System or 32-bit Operating System.

Windows Vista and Windows 7:

Step 1: Click on the Windows Icon, then right-click on "Computer"

Step 2: Select "Properties"

Step 3: Look next to "System type" to determine if you're running a 32-bit operating system or 64-bit.

For Windows XP:

Step 1: Click start, then right-click on "My Computer"

Step 2: Select "Properties"

Step 3: Look under the "general" tab for your operating system. If you see "x64 Edition" you are running the 64-bit version of Windows XP. If you do not see this text, you are running 32-bit.

Display Issues with X5 on Windows 7

http://www.emastercam.com/board/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages&section=pages&id=2&record=42

I tried searching this out, but don't seem to be using the correct terminology. If the answers to my questions are already out there, please send me in the correct direction.

I'm running:
X5 (haven't downloaded MU1 yet)
Dell T5400
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700 (Driver: 8.15.11.8593)
Windows 7
If other info is needed, just ask.

When moving the curser over solid (or surface) faces, the highlight seems to cover them in triangles & polygons until it is covered (I tried a screen capture but it won't "catch" it). And the extra animation takes a while to catch up to the curser. I can be done selecting multiple faces (or whatever I need) before the graphics catch up.

Also when selecting toolpaths to edit or display (I prefer to have the "Only Display Selected Toolpaths" button toggled ON), it draws them Layer by Layer. That takes a while for more involved toolpaths. But if they are already selected and I click the "Toggle Display on Selected Operation" button, they appear and disappear without hesitation.

I was running X4 MU3 on Windows XP, with a older computer, and had none of these problems. These seem like graphics card related issues, but I don't think my card is lacking in power. Any suggestions?

Thanks to all in advance!!

What devices can access my eBook?

http://www.emastercam.com/board/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages&section=pages&id=2&record=41

Our eBooks can be viewed on up to 3 computers, for example: a desktop, laptop and work computer. When you open a PDF for the first time, it creates an association with that device and counts towards your limit.

Official device compatibility list:

All Windows based desktops, laptops and tablets (running Windows XP and up)

Apple personal computers and laptops

Q: Can I read it on my iPad?
A: While there is currently no official support for the iPad (but it is in the roadmap) there is a third party app that currently exists claiming support for our eBooks. There is a cost associated with it but no portion of it comes to us. We have nothing to do with this app or its developer. For more information, click here. Note: due to the lack of comprehensive support for JPEG2000 compression of images in iOS4, only iPads running iOS5 will display images correctly.

Q: Can I read it on my >insert other tablet here<?
A: At the time of writing, the only tablets currently supported (iPads excepted - see above) are those running full versions of Windows.

Q: Can I read it on my Kindle/Nook/Sony Reader/Kobo/other reader?
A: Due to the graphic heavy nature of our books, and after much testing, we have found that any of the formats currently supported by most eReaders simply do not work well to visually driven texts. (Not counting the small screen size or lack of colour.) As it stands, we can not and are not offering versions compatible with these devices.

Opening your eBook for the first time.

http://www.emastercam.com/board/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages&section=pages&id=2&record=39

Thank you for choosing our Mastercam Training eBooks!
This document explains what to expect when using your eBook and what to do if you run into issues. This information is also available in PDF and Word form for your convenience.

Opening your eBook for the first time.
When you open an eBook for the first time, an association is made between the eBook and your computer. Your eBook can be viewed on up to 3 different computers (i.e. your document will create an association with up to 3 computers and can be viewed as many times as you like on those three computers).

There is no extra software required to view your eBook other than Adobe Reader or Acrobat Pro 6.0.1 (or higher). If you do not have either, you can download a free copy of Adobe Reader here: http://get.adobe.com/reader. Alternatively, you can use Foxit Reader, also free.

When you open your eBook you will have access to the first section immediately. To access the rest, you will be asked for the username and password that was included in your introductory email. This email is usually sent within 24 business hours after your purchase. Once you enter this information you will have access to the eBook. Please note: this username and password is not at all linked to your eMastercam account, so please keep the intro email for future reference. If you have lost this email and cannot remember your password, please create a support ticket.

Adobe Reader/Acrobat might ask if you wish to let the document access the internet. Click allow. Your computer will then communicate with the authentication server.

You should then be presented with a dialog box like the one below confirming the successful unlock of your eBook. It will ask if you would like to automatically sign into the eBook the next time it is opened on this computer.

If you choose Yes, anyone can open the eBook on your computer. Periodically, the document may ask for your credentials so keep them in an accessible place.

That should be it! If you run into any issues, see the section below.

Some things you might run into, and how to deal with them.
If your copy of Adobe Reader / Acrobat is not configured to remember usernames / passwords, the following error will be displayed and the document will immediately close.

To fix this, follow the on-screen instructions by:

Opening Adobe Reader

From the menu bar, select Edit

Select Preferences from the list

On the left-hand sidebar, select Javascript

Make sure "Enable global object security policy" is unchecked

Click the OK button

Close Adobe then Re-open the document

This setting will only have to be changed this one time. Now try opening your eBook again and follow the directions for opening your eBook for the first time, at the top of this page.

Scale > 1000000000 No Part??

http://www.emastercam.com/board/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages&section=pages&id=2&record=32

This is a hard to reproduce graphics issue that seems to happen randomly, and irregardless of level/product, although it has been more noticeable in lathe files.

what occurs is the part geometry seems to disappear and the graphics scale changed to 1,000,000,000.
So far, fixing the issue seems to be related to turning off a level that has a rectangular boundary (stock/toolpaths) saved to it. Turning it off, hitting fit, and then turning the level back on corrects the graphics glich.

Further insight appreciated

Cannot open Solidworks 2011 Files

http://www.emastercam.com/board/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages&section=pages&id=2&record=31

Okay, here is an update for guys running 64 bit operating systems that cannot open Solidworks 2011 files.

In-house Solutions could not figure why our 64 bit computers would not open the files, however, our 32 bit computers could.

I followed all the instructions that were posted by both Pete ( CNC Software ) and also by John Paris about using the control panel to unregister and re-register the Solidworks manager. This approach did not work.

I worked closely with our IT guy and found that the only way we could get Mastercam to recognize Solidworks files was to type some commands as follows:

Open command prompt by clicking Start -> Run and type:
cmd[enter]

then change directory by typing:

cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\mcamx5\common\SWORKSDATA"

Then run this command:

regsvr32 SWDocumentMgr.DLL

Now Mastercam X5 is working properly. I hope this helps others with the same issue.
