How did the last conspiracy theory firestorm of "split out" even start?

I watched it go from a random thought spoken out loud to full blown internet rage on my Droid

while sitting in the Vericut seminar this afternoon.. wasn't too worried about it though.

The one that's got me nervous is the upcoming BobCad/Mastercam merger ;)

Vericut Seminar? Is that one of their training courses at CGTech? If it is, I was supposed to be there, but the pin was pulled on it, by my powers further up the chain :(

I hope to make it later in the year :)

I think the "split out" theory spawned from trying to come up with ANY logical reason for CNC Software to drop Volumill. Hopefully when we hear from David tomorrow night, we'll find out why.

One of the founders of VoluMill (Celeritive Technologies, Inc.) was the main developer of SURFCAM TrueMill.

VoluMill (Celeritive Technologies, Inc.) was sued by SURFCAM for violating their TrueMill Patent.

They settled out of court back in 2009 and VoluMill now pays a licensing fee to SURFCAM.

It's quite possible that CNC doesn't see any economic advantage to being a partner or maybe

attempting to headoff potential legal issues.

However, the Siemens and CATIA announcement would lead one to believe that CNC doesn't want

a "partner" who work with their most threatening competition and/or CNC will soon

have their own version of a similar toolpath algorithm.

I doubt that Celeritives issues with Surfcam affect CNC's decision one way or the other. Celeritive didnt hide the fact that they had issues and in fact were very up front about it. If CNC had concerns about this you would think that they would have displayed them two years ago.

Maybe CNC got tired of hearing how much better Volumills 3d roughing is.. <grin>

Do they make an android plugin for this site? Tapatalk?

All of this speculation aside, the Owner of my company is furious about this news. He just watched his investment in Volumill get flushed down the toilet with absolutely no warning what so ever or without any viable solution from CNC to replace it.

beats me.. I just use the built in web browser..

I don't blame your boss for being mad.. dead money is dead money.. no matter what the cause..

I think new features in X6 will take up much of the slack..but that remains to be seen.

This is exactly why I originally wrote

Hmmmm....Maybe CNC is planning on adding the "Dynamic" and "Optirough" as another add on???? IOW....charging people to use those paths???? Lets hope not.

As it stands now CNC is not losing a dime to Volumill....in fact CNC could be gaining sales because Volumill can (used to) be used within Mastercam. No matter what, It will be interesting to hear what David has to say.....

If anything, dropping Volumill is a good thing for Mastercam's competitors that still work with them. It is another feature they have that Mastercam doesn't. Based on how advanced Mastercam's HST rest roughing toolpaths are I'm not holding my breath for anything in X6. HST has been around for several years and there hasn't been much improvement in this area.

There is no doubt in my mind that Mastercams dynamic tool paths will get there. It is the growing pains that I worry about. We have seen the bugs develop in dynamic core that were not there in the past and see the bugs in optirough. It was nice to have a reliable solution available while we are waiting for the end of the dynamic growing pains.

He should speak to your MC dealer directly... and the Sales Dept at CNC

Trust me, you do not want to wish that on CNC software. He is constantly asking me when I am going to be put on CNC's payroll for the endless beta testing cycle that we are on. When I talk to him about Mastercam he gets so pi$$ed off that he turns purple.

Neurosis,

It used to be liked that for me, with my Boss, but the solution for using Mastercam at my

shop is to stay 4-6 months behind and wait for the(1st) MU bug fixes to be released, before

in stalling the new ones...patiently waiting for X5 MU1.

Been like that since X3 hurt us bad, I don't have a problem with it because we will always

pay for maintenance.

Neurosis,

in stalling the new ones...patiently waiting for X5 MU1.

Been like that since X3 hurt us bad, I don't have a problem with it because we will always

That is usually our method of dealing with new releases. I jumped on X5 because of all of they hype that went around about how "ROCK SOLID" the X5 release was and that was why we waited so long to get it was because of the extensive beta testing that went on to insure that there were not as many bugs to deal with as in previous releases. While I will say that X5 has been more stable than most of the past releases where crashes are concerned, it certainly did not lack the bugs of past releases.

I completely skipped X3 because shortly after installing the initial release we encountered so many bugs and problems that the Owner made me uninstall it. There were a few specific bugs that affected us in our daily use of the system and they were never fixed in any of the MU's so we were never able to take advantage of an ENTIRE version of Mastercam that we paid maintenance on. This is partially my fault because I was not participating in the forum very much and neglected to keep my VAR informed about the problems that I was having with the software. Although I did spend a better part of a day with them on MY dime to go over several of the bugs that I had found after the fact.
