no way!

that's cool! exciting to see a possibly affordable UMC without the confounding Heidenhain control.

too bad they decided to go the cantilever route. not sure why they think they can compete with mori.

My goodness. I can't imagine how much that wimply little unsupported table distorts when you put more than 12 pounds on it.

We in the world would they not throw a pillow block on the end of it? I guess they're trying to be like mori but their B axis rotary is about 10times the size of that thing.

I guess I just don't get it. I get the idea behind making it a traveling column, like Hermle, Mori, Mazak, and others do with their dedicated 5 axis machines. But WTF is with the rotary setup? If anybody is there tomorrow, please ask a Haas person for us.

Hopefully this is just the prototype and they will make improvements to rigidity. I guess they have to start somewhere and refine their design. Could it be better? Sure it could, just let them work on it and you will probably get a descent machine. Never hurts to have options when it come to finding the right machine for the job.

jeepers, makes me want to run over there with a floor jack and prop it up.

guess i can save the gas money by not attending, thanks for the pic specv!

heavychevy is too charitable; the Committee that designed that should cut a hole in their belly so they can see out.

I was at Westec and saw the machine..... They have done some redesign, the front is now supported and looked Ok. They were cutting some Al.

Asked about the design and was told that the price was going to be $150K with options, And mostly constructed of parts they already make\have.

For the money looked nice. All and all Westec was the smallest I have seen in 38+years. -matt

that would be my guess.+/-

i think DMG has a positional-only model under this price.

seems like it 'haas' as pretty small footprint.

rotaries look pretty slow in typical haas fashion. but if the price is right it should find a great place in the market.

something to get into the larger (non-toy) trunnion market without the 300-500k price of the asian or euro iron would be great.

They are still nailing down the 5-Axis Control Software. Had a Haas AE asking me about TCP, WSEC, RTDFO, etc... How they worked, what the code looked like, etc...

I didn't ask, but I took that as they want to be as compatable as possible to FANUC even with some of the higher end functions.

I have no idea when this machine will be ready.
