Been discussing the upgrades I need with my reseller in order to do what the company here wants me to do, and of course being the cheepie I am I have total sticker shock.

Is anyone using Blade Expert, and in short with a hand full of brain cells and a month or so to practice can I make a compressor wheel without it?

Or does it make the process so much easier that I can regain the price of a new car in a few months time?

Do you have any 5-axis experience, and can you post a pic of the part?

I was going to get temp codes and try it out but the price of admission was so
far beyond what I could sell to my boss there was zero chance we'd ever buy it.
I figured my time was better spent elsewhere.
It is my understanding that it automates a process that can be already be done with the existing package.
If you're new to making impellers in might be a useful training aid.
Perhaps you could get a 90 day evaluation license and try it out before laying down the cash.

Hi Jeremy,

No 5 ax besides just playing with and backplotting. My career revolves around figuring things out though, I'm always in over my head!

Been drawing these for years and it takes too long to get it from the tube to the dyno when you have to farm out the machining.

G code! I'm in a sink or swim situation so if it takes blade expert to do this then I'm stuck. If I can do without it then I would like to.

check out the In House Advanced 5X tutorial.

They do a part that looks similar to that one.. and they do it without Blade Expert.

Cool I'll check it out

I need to get another quote from Fastech though being (I heard) you can run blade expert with mill level 3 only and any other 5 ax work would require a multi axis  addition to MC.

I think I'm more excited about getting involved deeply in the mastercam forum again than programming the machine. Gcode You are one of a hand full that have been here longer than I have.

If you're going to do impellers you really need the multiaxis add-on, with or without Blade Expert

I'm lucky in that my seat of MultiAxis grandfathered in from my V9L3 seat

multiax add-on at a minimum. you dont want to be limited to "just" impellers.

If I was to buy a new sports car I would head to the Hypermill dealership or the NX dealership. they both offer that specific vehicle and its already road tested

I think he's talking about tuning up his current ride not trading her in. ;) :P

we do, but we've also done some impellers with Blade Expert that turned out well  - I'll see if one of the other guys who actually did them can chime in

if I were buying a new sports-car myself, I would very seriously consider the total cost of ownership, and look at the options, the service station and the warranty, for any car!  Those are nice cars, but I've worked with other drivers who have been in the same frustrated position you're in Wes but on the other side of the fence. At this point in 2012 cars should really be cut and dry

A lot depends on whose driving what.
I recently heard of an NX house who hired a Mastercam contractor after struggling
for 3 months to machine a titanium impeller. The Mastercam guy was in and out in a week, problem solved.
The car makes a big difference, but what's more important, is ....does the driver know how to drive it ???

Yep. Hate to say it out loud but the driver makes a WHOLE lotta difference in how the car performs. I've got a really high-end car (CATIA) and you know what, she's got her issues too. She's FAR from perfect, and dayum if she ain't a high maintenance b!+(# ... Just sayin'

From the early days, the old infopop mastercam forum.

Well I have driven many miles, many many miles so I'm hoping the steering wheel feels familiar even though it will be turning 5 wheels at once. I understand the geometry since I draw these things often I'm hoping that will count for something.

One thing I miss about not drawing every part is that you loose some of the familiarity with it. Don't get me wrong, I'd MUCH rather be a programmer than a CAD jockey, but building a prat fr scratch, you get to know it inside and out before you ever put a tool to it. That is helpful IMHO.
