  1. You are probably correct in that there is no way to fully protect from the vandalism . However the average employee running a machine Probably does not have the skills to create something in Linux that would harm the machine. Not only is it the Linux operating system, it is a highly customized Linux operating system. So hacking into it by software although is probably possible is highly unlikely. Deleting system files would probably the most common way to screw up a machine. However all machines have a backup CD.
  2. Mikron Equipment GFMS The newer rConnect boxes are wireless also. They are very secure. I have never heard of a hacked machine control with this configuration. If you have concerns we can put your IT dept in touch with our developers. Ask your local sales rep
  3. Have you contacted GF Machining Solutions? 847-913-5300 Go through the menu to milling apps and someone will be happy to assist you.
  4. It can be programmed in G-code if that is what you prefer or "Heidenhain Conversational". It is a very user friendly control once you get used to it.
  5. Did I miss it or did you not mention what machine this is on? if you are on a Heidenhain 530 or newer and are not using the plane commands and or M128 you are suffering needlessly. By using these commands you can place the part anywhere (within reason) and probe it to set your part zero, then run. You can adjust globally when using M128. Attend adjust independently for each plane when using plane commands .
  6. I work with both Heidenhain and Siemens controls on Mikron equipment. (5 axis) I find the Heidenhain much easier to use. In day today use and performance I much prefer the Heidenhain control . However when it comes to parametric programing the Siemens control will win hands down .
  7. We generally do offer training at our facilities. Under some circumstances they are free. However due to the current COVID situation this is limited. We are however offering online classes. There is a charge for these.
  8. I installed 2020 on my surface pro 6. Turned off graphics acceleration to get it to load and run. Everything seems fine except the tool manager. I hangs the software. Has anyone gotten this to work? Yes I know Intel is not supported by MC. 2018 ran fine on my older Surface pro.
  9. Rick, I agree for the most part with all the comments given. However! As far as 0.0002" being held day in day out everywhere??? The dimension first has to be defined as to what kind of a dimension. A bore? Possibly. Overall surface? Not likely. I hear this all the time with people stating that they hold 0.0002" on everything they cut. Then find out they are programming to the nominal tool size of a low end tool, from a low end tool manufacturer, in a 10 year old Cat 40 collet holder. Temperature stability is of extreme importance to machining accurate parts. Even though the machine has thermal compensation software it can not account for extreme variations. In a 10 degree variance the part alone may see more thermal change than your tolerance. This does not even include the tool holder and tool. Keep in mind also that in 5 axis certain errors actually get doubled. If machines could effectively comp for real world thermals then CMMs would not need to be placed in thermally controlled areas. There are things that can be done to help but one must be realistic. Call me. 508-474-1133
