I know that an aweful lot of folks would love to be able to kick out a zillion triangles into a nice sexy solid.  Is there a way to do this yet that won't break the bank?

Look to Verisurf for a solution on this one

I am evaluating a beta software right now.  Can post results when I have enough data.

Really depends of the stl. Mastercam Verify STL not easy doable maybe, but not easy. Free form shapes a lot easier, but depends on the shape and points used to create the point cloud that the stl is derived from. Then we get into over lapping stl and was it 3d carved and other wonderful things that make the process more complex.

Beta testing was not a complete failure, but found that it is not a good fit with Mastercam.  Too slow, and bulky.  Verisurf and Geomagic are the only software packages that I have found to work well.
