Selecting Geometry

If it's still a solid you will have to create surfaces from a solid.

...or use the solid selection option to select solid faces.

What type of entities are you trying to select? If you want to select the wireframe, you can create curves on all edges, or single edges, assuming you currently only have a solid.

You have a select feature solid toolbar that becomes active for tool paths. You select or deselect what you want to work with.

I usually start another level, then Create, Curve all edges. I also use a different color for that level. you can also just put curves on only a part of a solid. It depends what you need to do.

To expand on Chris' post, the Mastercam X7 Lathe Training Tutorial by In-House solutions is a good place to start for lathe: http://www.emastercam.com/board/store/product/510-mastercam-x7-lathe-training-tutorial/

For Mill, we have a couple of options. The Mastercam X7 Mill level 1 Training Tutorial (available here: http://www.emastercam.com/board/store/product/508-mastercam-x7-mill-level-1-training-tutorial/) takes you step-by-step in creating geometry and toolpaths from within Mastercam. The CAD Import and Mill level 1 Toolpaths Tutorial (available here: http://www.emastercam.com/board/store/product/697-mastercam-x7-cad-import-mill-level-1-toolpaths-tutorial/ ) you open pre-existing geometry files (e.g., .DWG, .DXF, .SLDPRT), import them, and then create toolpaths for them. If you're going to mostly be working with files created in other programs that're imported into Mastercam, then the CAD import book would be the way to go.

We also have tutorials for Mill level 3 and 4/5 axis mills if that's the level you're at.

Each store page has a link to a free sample PDF so you can see what sort of topics are covered in each book and how we approach the material before buying.
