axis subsitutuion?

 I'm making a simple, horseshoe shaped part with a simple slot in the bottom and can't seem to get my toolpath to run where I need it. Years ago I did a similar part and used an axis substitution, but now can't remember how. My toolpath runs 90 degrees about the center of rotation from my selected geometry. Any advice? Thanks!

Use the "more reply options"

Then in the lower left browse to the file you want to upload then select attach.

Here's the part. The part got finished before I got it with the exception of the slot around the outside of the "D" shape. My center of rotation is the hole which will be my X axis. Thanks again!

Axis sub I don't think is going to work on this because the straight part of the slot runs off in the Y

 

When you use axis sub you generally give up x or Y motion XZA or YZA, it depends on what your rotary axis is defined around

 

I thought Rolldie might do it but I have not gotten anything really useable....

 

I am thinking this is a 5 axis curve. I don't have X7 so I'm guessing sharing anything there would do no good.

Do you have access to the multiaxis toolpaths in Mcam?

You could use morph between curves, flow 5axis, multisurf,...

I'm with these guys, sounds like a 5x sorta thing.  Didn't you guys used to have a pretty good 5x guy there?  Sat in front of you?  Kind of a d***?

Thanks guys, I was hoping I could make axis sub work. As for the guy I used to work with, he probably could've solved it ASAP. Even if I did have to withstand some poop-flinging

Ha ha... I'm sure you'll get it.  Plus that guy was over rated.  Hey save that thing out as a parasolid.x_b and post it so I can take a look.  All I have is SW 2011 these days.

Here's a curve multiaxis locked to 4axis output using lines for TAC, I also rotated the part relative to Mcam's Top WCS and using the X axis as the center of rotation.
