Setting a Machine as default

I have just migrated to x8 from x7, we have only used 1 machine definition inthe past on x7, I have used migration wizard and have all correct new posts etc in correct folders ( i.e. updated post, machine and control definitions supplied to us by mcx supplier).

When i open a new file in x7 - the new file loads with machine def correct - i.e the default one post-54503-0-18767000-1427827734_thumb.jpg- and the default one is correct

The problem i am having in x8 - is if i load a 'new' file - no machine appears - if i load the default one from machine type - it rejects this,

i then go into  manage list and select machine def i require - and i am then ok - how do i make this stick as the default machine - so it loads every time i start a new job - i have played with various settings in different areas - but cant make it so it loads the correct machine def as the default - any advice welcome

Thanks - i have done that - the directory is correct ( cnc_machines) - there are machines in that directory - but i cannot access any of them

from the dropdown menu- like i can in x7 - the dropdown menu is blank - even though i know the machine def i require is in that directory??

Did you updated your X7 config to X8?

I have seen first hand that if you do that, when you go into default machines in your config, nothing shows up.

Try deleting your X8 config and restarting Mastercam, let it create a default config and then see if your machines show up

DELETED THAT - NO CHANGE, but, there is another config file (mcamxm) - deleted that & dropdown menu is fixed - but i had to reload my default workspace etc,

what are the 2 config files doing ??

It seems you are using a Millimeter config instead of the Imperial.......

The config file is where all of your interface settings are located. When you start Mastercam this is the file that set's up your GUI, data paths and settings.

As I previously noted, if you migrate your config from a previous version it seems the data path for the default machines gets hosed, when you pull the menu down it shows nothing even though you are pointing to the correct directory and everything is in the correct directory.

As such, the creation of a new default config file alleviates the issue.
