I am teaching myself mill level 3 and i'm stuck on the first tutorial. I have followed the instructions on the included dvd and followed from the book. When i go to generate the first tool path, Surface rough>pocket, I input all the correct parameters, as instructed by both book and dvd, but when i finalize everything and click ok the message "Unable to determine a valid machining zone - no toolpath created" appears. Any suggestions as to what i am doing wrong or how to fix this?

It's been so long since I've used surface rough pocket that I've forgot the terminology, but it's either cut depths or depth cuts where you define what Z level to start and finish cutting at. If you have those values set wrong, you'll get that error.

Say you want to cut a pocket from the top (Z0) to 1 inch deep (Z-1.0), and you had your depth cuts/cut depths set to Z1.0 to Z0, then MC would be "Unable to determine a valid machining zone - no toolpath created."

Make sense?
