4th axis Gear

Can someone help me with this gear? I'm trying to get it to cut from the side like in the video. The fly cutter is 66 mm dia. 1mm thick like a jewelers saw.

What is the best tool path to use

Well seeing how they are not cutting that gear correctly not sure why you would want to follow that process, but if you do then a Basic Contour will do most of the work. Then a Curve 5 Axis will be the way to make the tool curve into the part at the edges. Again I don't consider that the correct way to machine a gear kicking the tool into one side of it and the other side of it. The Radius of the tool would create a scallop that would not be correct through the entire profile of the gear. What I have done is used a gear cutter and done a simple contour toolpath. If I was worried about how much the stock the gear cutter had to cut then I might do a center cut and then come back and cut with the gear cutter. What class of gear are you trying to machine?

Yea it would be a lot easier with a form tool, but we do to many different sizes. with this tool we just change inserts. 

We just do prototype so finish is not super critical . type spur involute

I bought a lot of Sandvik tools at a previous job. Bet you a dollar if you call your local rep he'll find out what it was programmed with. I'm curious to know myself.

My understanding is that these are custom form tools from sandvik that have been designed for spur gears. The custom tools cut the gear correctly and accurately using a there InvoMilling software, do a google search on it there is some info out there. The software was developed by Sandvik together with one of the gear guru's maybe Stepan Lunin or similar

^{Can't seem to get this to machine on the side like in the video, Mastercam sees the tool to big. no problem with 1mm endmill. using 5 axis curve on 4 axis machine}
