finish cuts

Recommended Posts

I would look to 5 or 7 flute endmills for finishing 1018. .002 to .004 per tooth chip load for finishing and max sfm the tool is recommend for. The faster if the better the finish. The slower the worse the finish.

Like others said extremely loaded question as many factors must be considered. I have a Ti part with .033-.08 walls thickness I and almost nothing is flat. It is being finished pretty much with ball endmills. I am leaving anywhere from .005 to .01 so I get get a chip. Any less and I run the risk of rubbing the material verses cutting the material. Ti is one of the metals that will work harden has it is cut so need to be mindful of how much stock and where the stock is.
