  5. Update: We just had our computers upgraded and Mastercam reinstalled, and now I cannot get the incorrect/missing work offset problem to reoccur. I guess this is a win, though I still haven't figured out why the problem was initially occurring. And yes, I know our reseller should be the point of contact for this type of issue. They are non-responsive on this issue, and have been for over a year. I reached out to Mastercam directly and they will only respond with: "XXX is your reseller, contact them for support" - so no help there. My employer is happy to keep paying yearly subscription fees even though we only update our Mastercam version once every 5 years, and we haven't been in contact with the reseller in any capacity for over 2 years. Thank you everyone for the help! As you can tell, I'm very much on my own here.
  6. I've never had an issue with the mastercam 5 axis link. Generally I'll prove the program out with forced tool changes between each multiaxis path and then once I have them all dialed in I'll go back in and add the multiaxis link. Then go re-prove it out again lol
  7. Hello, I'm a relative novice at using Mastercam and I have been drawing up YuGiOh deckboxes to print on my Prusa i3 MK2 just for fun. I went to slice my model in PrusaSlicer and I notice that there are some errors on the model; in particular, it said something about open edges. Now, I have never really done any work in Mastercam before aside from for my job. I can describe how I made the model, and maybe that will provide some insight as to why there are open edges and how to fix them. First, I made the wireframe. I found the dimensions for a different deckbox, and that made mine ~ 3.5in x 2.5in x 4in with the lid included (not 100% sure about the final dimensions but there we go). After that, I used the Extrude feature quite a lot- I used it to extrude the main body of the deckbox and I also used it to cut into the deckbox to give it that big cavity in the middle. I also used it to extrude the main solid for the lid about an inch, then I cut into it with another extrude operation, this time at -0.8in to give it a 0.2in solid "bed" if you will. That way, it isn't too flimsy and it can withstand being dropped. Finally, I extruded the lip where the lid meets the deckbox body and added a chamfer. That's it. All that to say, I really want to know why there were open edges because I want to start modeling things in Mastercam more. I want to start being able to make my own models! If anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be fantastic. Thank you for reading, have a great day. EDIT: Added the .stl files, as I realized I forgot to attach them. deckbox lid v2.stl deckbox v2.stl
  8. Done it many times over the years with Mastercam. Kalibre pointed you in a good direction. I made models for everything and used them in my setup sheets to help anyone running one of my programs understand when where and how I wanted things done.
  9. You can define both your jaws and tailstock center in the stock set-up page. Tailstock advance/retract and part transfer still work. You're going to want to add M00 from your canned text before the transfer at the least for tailstock removal, it's even better to check the chuck clamping condition - i.e Nakamura lets you check it and alarm out (G471Y0102.7Q1.I9998. <- if not clamped GOTO9998, have alarm and message at N9998) or check some other machine state that will prevent crashing when the sub-spindle moves across. If you're going to do it a lot, it's worth making a spring loaded holder for the center and having it on the turret or in the tool chain (if that type of machine).
  10. The only real drawback to utilizing the multi-face approach is that you'll have more tool changes. So 4 tool changes over 4 parts as opposed to amortizing 1 tool change for 4 (or however many) parts. My personal primary preference is flexibility. There is more to "cycle time" considerations than from program start to program finish. Like if the machine is running 24-7, NEVER idle, then yeah, you want that cycle time to be as short as possible. If your fully loaded machine runs for 2 shifts then sits idle for one shift, then really you gain nothing by shaving every millisecond off the cycle time because that time savings was killed by the idle 3rd shift. 12. What the pre-position does for you is create a safe and known transition from path to path. If you want sexy, YouTube worthy machine porn, there's a path in Mastercam (5-Axis Linking) or CAMplete's Auto-Link function (it requires an NC Format that supportsthe function. It has to be turned on also... by default it's off. If you want to know how to turn it on, let me know.
  13. Even though we use CAMplete, maximizing the use of the available options on the machine took a little work. Currently I'm working on utilizing the tolerance control feature (G10.8). That's gonna take a bit. If there's anything you need for the Matsuura just ask.

  15. yup even Haas goes about it the same way, G254 DWO to position and then turn off, and activate G234
  16. I used to be just like that. This is all fine and dandy as long as someone before you has done "all the hard work". I came up in a 3axis haas shop. I learned to program using mastercam and an established haas post. This was my life for years and I never had to do/add/change anything. Then we got a UMC-500 and all of a sudden I had to get familiar with a LOT of new G code. Then I didn't run any simultaneous 5ax toolpaths for almost a year because my post was messed up and wouldn't output G234 TCPC correctly. Eventually I had a job that HAD to be machined using full 5axis and I finally went down the rabbit hole of post-reseller tickets and the back and forth. About 7-8 iterations of that and now my Haas UMC post works right LOL. and then of course now with with the matsuuras comes a bevy of new G code to learn. and yeah you pretty much need to at least have a half assed idea of what is going on to be able to properly troubleshoot issues IMO. I still have a lot to learn but slowly getting there.
  17. Hey guys, I'm looking at a job where I will want to use the sub spindle to grip a turned center to support the part, and then take the center out and use the sub to pick the part and run the backside. Has anyone done this? I haven't started the programming the job yet but I'm not sure how I would define the "center" and the sub jaws to work together? Hopefully I am explaining this well enough.. I want to bore my sub jaws to my grip diameter, then turn a piece of stock in the sub to use as a center so I can pop it in my sub jaws, use it as a tailstock, and then just take the center out and grab the part in the sub to finish it. Like I said I have not yet started the programming, just getting a plan together right now, but as I get into it I can definitely get a file together to share if it helps.
  18. Ahhh yes I can definitely see that making a difference over a large quantity order. I'll keep that in mind if that becomes an issue for us overnight.
  19. I am running MCAM 2023 with all patches installed on WIN 10 Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045. For some reason my CONFIG file keep getting over written with the default version. It seems to happen randomly or at least I don't see the trigger. I have tried to overwrite it with a saved back-up CONFIG copy but, no luck. I have to "re-build" my CONFIG every time this happens. This has happened 8-10 times in the last few weeks and it is a PITA. I reached out to our local MCAM rep and no luck. I searched the forums and found a few posts, but none have provided a resolution. I hope someone on here has some suggestions.
  20. Licensed Mastercam users can download a very good one from the Tech Exchange at Mastercam.com

  22. when saving the file from Mastercam select Save As then select file type X_T or X_B ( it doesn;t matter which) then select Options and chose 30 or 31 and click OK That file will open in SW2021
  23. We still are having trouble opening Mastercam 2024 files in SW 2021. Does anyone else know how to make it work? We've tried converting as Parasolid and to lower versions as well. We have tried all three STEP formats and a number of IGES formats as well.
  24. Hello everyone, maybe someone can share a postprocessor for Haas st20y ? [email protected] Thank you in advance
  25. That is where we are- new machine with unfamiliar options. We have a good squad here James and the forum is so helpful-- so with negative capability we keep moving.
  26. Glad to help wherever I can. It's a lot to take in, but getting a dialed in post helps. I was having a discussion with someone last week and they contended that knowledge of "g-code" isn't useful anymore because of CAD/CAM. I only partially agree with that statement. Does someone need to know how to write a program from scratch? Meh... not really. What someone that works with or writes programs MUST know is Program formatting. When to turn things on and when to turn them off. When to use this function, and when to use that function. While a dialed post can solve some of those issues, when a company gets a new machine or the machine has options that are unfamiliar, being able to troubleshoot code formatting is a critical skill. At then end of the conversation I thingbwe agreed on most points.
  27. Thank you James and Millman for the prompt answers. We are working on all this- and every bit of discussion and information helps! I copied the macro settings that you dropped me James, and the G10
