    Y-Axis parting in MT Environment

Is there a way to do Y-Axis parting/cutoff in the MT environment? I'm thinking I am going to have to do it with a manual entry sub program. Could get messy.

    4 Axis Curve Toolpath

Depending on the version of Mastercam you are using I'm pretty sure there are issues with this chook. Its been a while since I've used it as well but I don't think it worked in Mastercam2020. I remember the training/book department said there were issues with it. I have not tried it in Mastercam2021 yet so I cant say if it works in that version.

    AXIS Substitution problems...

I had that as a problem before with a 5 axis post and using axis sub toolpaths. Never found out what the solution was as I didn't own the post and was locked out of most of it. I will dig into it when I get a chance.

    4 Axis Curve Toolpath

Well these is a chook called roll die that might be what you're really after here. I looked at the parent solid and see your trying to accomplish what is referred to as a roll die shape. What that means is a roller needs to roll around that shape that is fixed to a point. It can spin around a fixed point, but the idea is keeping the of the roller bearing in contact with the surface of contact. John Summers developed this 25-30 years ago I believe to support this type of output where you really needed Y to change to machine the shape on a 4 Axis with the 4 Axis runnign along the X axis. I think swarf will get you there, but if not then might try out the Chook and see. Sorry I don't have any documentation on the toolpath and been a good 15 years since I needed to use it.

    4 Axis Curve Toolpath

See there I learned something new. I will give the swarf as try. I that doesn't do it I guess I will be cleaning up the curve lines. Thank you for your input.

I see this with Catia models all the time. I've grown to hate Catia and I don't even use it.

    For Developers

This would probably get more traction on the official forum. I would like to be able to select geo by level myself. I think this is a good idea. Then you can move any needed geo to that level and have all associated toolpaths regen.

    lens mill aluminum

I'm very interested in your feedback on how you're running these and how they perform. I've tried a few and in my experience they chatter really bad. The extensions/gage line I've needed they seemed to have too much tool pressure. They were faster but they also chattered where a ball mill did not. Any way, please report back.

    AXIS Substitution problems...

I would try changing the direction of the rotary from CCW to CW or vice versa, my guess is your rotary direction for Clockwise/Counter clockwise is Bass Ackwards

    4 Axis Curve Toolpath

The 5 Axis curve lines are not normal to the axis. I would use swarf like you are and give it a try. You can try curve, but the lines must be normal to the Axis of rotation not kicked over like they are. That would be something a 5 axis would want not a 4 axis.

You could use Canned Text instead of Misc. Int./Misc. Reals as well. I think it's a cleaner method.

    AXIS Substitution problems...

It all worked out for me, except for one odd issue. On the computer it was climb milling, on the machine it was conventional. Any ideas why that would be?

You'll also need to set in the Options Advanced Settings the "Post Insert Custom GCode As Comment" as unchecked. By default it is checked.

    4 Axis Curve Toolpath

That's an understatement. With swarf and 5 axis anything can happen.

    Right angle head spindle direction

For a Fixed Angle RAH ( tool is mounted at one "orientation" or "Station" as Mastercam calls it), you only really need two offsets. The H Offset and the D offset. The D Offset is called with G45/G46, and the H is still called with G43. You would either program on the G18 or G19 plane. This allows you to still use G41/G42 with a separate D Offset, for circular or contour motion on that plane. That way you can accommodate a range of different RAH Tools, just by using Offset Registers on the machine.

Thanks crazy^millman, I reattached the file. Hopefully it works now. I have not tried the Swarf toolpath yet.

    I never knew that.

    4 Axis Curve Toolpath

5 axis Curve must be driven correctly to respect the walls. I tried downloading the file, but not working. Swarf is using the walls to define the cut and it works differently. With surface you may need to define enough vectors that align with the walls to get it to respect the walls. Have you tired posting and running the swarf toolpath? Just because it looks clean doesn't make it clean.
