My VAR just quoted me $6,500 to upgrade my current subscription of Mastercam from 2.5 axis to 3 axis. Holy crap!! Is that really the going rate?

    MULTI-AXIS-UNDERCUT HELP

This was very helpful, thank you. I am now trying to incorporate this into the larger part. It is a much larger undercut so many multi passes will be necessary. Is there a way to force the path the start from the top if i need it to?

    MULTI-AXIS-UNDERCUT HELP

Heyo Spotterhphc, I took a quick look at this because it seemed like it would be more fun than doing real work I modified op #7, your Parallel toolpath. Stock - Use Stock Model #1 (Op #3) Cut Pattern - I hooked it up to the level 4000 geometry and set it to be Parallel to Angle so I got a constant step down. Tool Axis Control - Fixed Angle To Axis, "X." This will make it a "3 axis" toolpath, i.e., it will make the tool axis control independent from the geometry. Collision Control - CC#1 - Tilt Tool Automatically against the drive surface and the check surface (the flat bottom floor). This will cause the tool to tilt if you're going to hit the drive surfaces, modifying what we set in Tool Axis Control. Roughing - Multipasses turned on. I did 6 passes @ .1 depth, but of course you can use whatever you need here. The idea is to make sure there's enough passes that the excess can be trimmed off by stock. Multipasses will offset from the surface, Depth Cuts would have offset along the tool vector. I didn't play with Linking, but I would probably put a lead in/out on so you don't just plunge directly into the material anywhere it's trimmed. That gives me this as an output: Hope this helps! Linking parameters in flow toolpath

I logged this issue as R-19176. I did my testing in MC2020. With a "keep down" distance of 2.0mm or 1.0mm the tool doesn't retract (I agree, I think it should). With a "keep down" distance of zero, it still doesn't retract. But I was able to enter a "keep down" distance of "-1.0mm" (!) and when I regenerated, the tool did retract. Maybe that will work for you, too, as a work-around.

I do not, i would email your local re-seller and they will either know an answer or they will be able to find out if they don't have an answer or you can ask cnc software directly, that would be the best way to get access without a sim is with reseller or cnc software assistance. Edit, if you already have your account linked and lost your password i am pretty sure you can recover the password on the website, but if you are trying to generate a linking code without a mastercam licenses i would say asking the local reseller is the best place to start.
  13. Oh well, I take it you don't have a maintenance package with your reseller? If you did I would expect them to help you out with this, especially as you have already upgraded to 2018/19. Don't forget any of your HASPS will read work for all previous versions too. So you just need the Installation .EXE file for X9 to get going. The other alternative might be to just upgrade the problem files to 2019 (I bypassed 2017 and 2018 for the same reasons as above). The GUI is somewhat different but they have made further improvements to the HS toolpaths.

    Linking parameters in flow toolpath

If I go to the front view and rotate (move) the cylinder 90 degrees and regen... well, then the tool retracts between cuts. Maybe the "keep down" move is being measured in the wrong view? I'll keep digging.

Hi Newbeee, i am not sure if you are aware but if you want to practice with mastercam from home to keep it fresh in your memory you can actually download and run the Home Learning Edition. here is a link, https://signup.mastercam.com/demo-hle, it does of course come with some limitations that the full version does not have but if you are eventually getting mastercam again and want to get some practice or experiment with some of the powerful new features then you could certainly download and practice with the home learning edition, its great in my opinion for students or users who want to practice or learn to better their mastercam skills without having a license.

    MULTI-AXIS-UNDERCUT HELP

Hello, I am looking for a way to rough out stock in an undercut situation using multi axis but also using stock recognition. Attached is the simplified MC file that I am working on. This is going to be run on an Integrex i300. When the file gets opened you can see the real part that I need to make on "level 1". "level 2" has the model I need (+.01" everywhere) prior to finish turning the inside. I've been messing around with this for some time now and I've gotten close as you can see in the toolpaths and stock "model 2" but i want to believe there is a much better way to do this. I am afraid of tool burial approaching the way i have it programmed now. "Stock Model 1", on level 3, is roughly what the stock will look like before I start cutting the undercut. Straight walls all the way to the bottom on the part. I scaled down the part to do some test cuts on aluminum first so that's why levels 3998-4001 have smaller geometry. The real part is copper so that's why I am milling and not turning. Is there a way to use multi axis toolpaths while using stock recognition on a feature like this? I want it to start at the straight walls and work its way in to the angled walls while not colliding with things (obviously). The real part will be using Tool #3 (1"ball em). With only .800 of flute so I will need to take depth cuts down to the floor. Note that i dont have to use the ball too the entire length. I can use multiple tools including bull end mills( T#1) if it makes things easier in the top section of the ID of the part. Any and all help is appreciated. Let me know if I left anything important out that you need to know. MULTI-AXIS.pdf MULTI-UNDERCUT.ZIP
  18. If you turn on the setting shown in the image below, then if your XY stepover is properly defined in the tools it will set your stepover for you in the toolpaths based on the selected tool. I hope this resolves the problem, you can make this setting a default. and this check box is helpful for other tasks too because if i have a drill toolpath for example but i select a tap it will even change the drilling cycle to tapping so it has other handy uses too. edit: just noticed you might already know about this setting after re-reading the original post, did this setting not work for you? because when i just tested this check box it worked well and pulled in the stepover but maybe i overlooked something else

Tool library defaults read into High speed toolpath

Thanks nickbe10. Yeah I wish I could, I actually have access to the newer versions (2018/19) but the issue in our company we are only a small firm. I am the main programmer for all the CNC's in the factory the other two seats we have are only really used for size amendments from cutter wear or as a preview for what I have programmed or on the fly adjustments (everything we manufacture is a one off). My seat is the only seat on support, we would need to a service package for the other two seats if I upgraded my version so they could read which ever version of Mastercam I'm using and at £8-10k it isn't a immediate requirement. Thanks for response though!
  20. Without wishing to sound negative, I would recommend upgrading to X9 to start. The High speed toolpaths have always been glitchy / difficult and this was nowhere more evident than in X7 and X8. I never even downloaded them, went straight from X6 to X9, along with many others. I don't generally have a problem with reading parameters in from tools in my tool libraries as long as it is the initial set up. Where I still run into problems is editing a pre existing toolpath and being sure it "buys" the new parameters. The Apply button helps here before you Green Check out. I have even used the return to defaults and then re entering the edit, then Apply and this will sometimes force the new parameters.

    5-Axis Swarf Tool Path

They both work fine, but on occasion I have struggled with faceting on the old-school SWARF... so Pattern/SWARF Milling is the better one, IMO.
  25. How do you get Mastercam X8 to read the cutter definitions into the high speed toolpath options? I end up with all sorts of bizarre figures in my stepdowns/stepovers even though they are correct in the tool definition. I contacted 4D in the UK and the recommended changing the .formula defaults in the "save parameters to default" option at the top of the high speed parameter window, which works when remembering only one tool type. I use an arsenal of tooling from 32mm high speed roughing tools to 0.2mm cutters - which would obviously be obliterated if I bring in the defaults from .formula file for the previously saved tool. Which is why it would be easier if the parameter from the tool read straight into high speed parameters page. I genuinely think 4D are stumped. Under "machine group properties" - then "tool settings" tab the use "tools step, peck, coolant" and I cannot find anything else to help make the process slicker. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers Everyone.

I haven't been there (mcam.com) since I got timed out from the sim after selling the business. Not using mastercam at the moment, I don't know a way back on there as I have no sim. Shame, as I do like to keep "up" with things...
