high pressure pump - 3 turrets

Recommended Posts

Recently picked up a new to us Mori NZ2000 T3Y3 machine. The high pressure pump it came with is only plumbed to run high pressure into 2 of the turrets. It is a single pump unit & the way it is hooked up is it can run to just turret 1 or turret 1 & 2. It cannot run turret 2 by itself, and it is not even hooked up to turret 3.

We want to be able to have all 3 turrets able to function independently. On our 2 turret NZX, we have a double pump unit. very easy to understand how that works.....

I have seen the 3 pump models which are way slick but also way expensive.

What have you guys seen/used?

Volume amount is the consideration here. There is a reason 3 pumps are for 3 turrets. The amount of volume needed to support hat much coolant is one thing, but also pressure is accomplished by the size of the lines running to the turrets and the return to the tanks. Then you have to factor in filtration into that process. How quick can the coolant be de-foamed and filtered to go through again? There are formulas for these processes and been years since I had to figure any of this out, but cavitation and other things also have to be factored. What angles are the coolant lines being run at and through from the pump to the turret? What is the orifice size of the exit hole? What angle and change in pressure is being done from the entry to the exit of the nozzle? Fluid dynamics is very interesting and when you consider those factors you start to see why 2-3-4 as much has 8 pumps on some machines and external reservoirs and other things are extremely important.
