Technically, a ".tooldb" file is a Tool Database, encoded in "SQL Lite" format.

It can contain:

  • Tool Holder Data
  • Cutting Tool Data
  • Tool Assembly Data

In your machine definition, simply link the MD to a Tool Database of your choosing. You can put Tools, Holders, and full Tool Assemblies inside that Tool Database File. So just make sure you aren't building "separate libraries" for each type of tool component. Just use a single file to store all tool information for a particular machine.

You can use the "standalone Tool Manager" for Mastercam, to easily "merge" two databases together. Copy+Paste from one, to the other. Note that when you "copy" a huge amount of data, it will take seconds to "highlight and/or select" that much data. Perform each step of the process slowly and carefully, so that you don't duplicate data, and so that the "focus of Windows" has time to register. What I mean is "moving from one database to the other database, can sometimes take Windows several seconds to "catch up", so don't try and do this quickly, unless your data set is fairly small...

Save your holders into your tool library..

There is no setting for a tool holder library

Then what is the default file of holder when it first loads into MasterCam?  I will rename my file name to the default holder file, I hope it works that way. Easy and fast.

Won't work but you won't listen

There is a file in your Tools folder, it is caller HOLDER.mcam

That Mastercam file is what populates the default holder that you see....it is not a library for the default holder it is a Mastercam fine...

It's been noted above, by several people, including myself....copy your holders into your tool library...there is NOT a separate library that is the default holder

  • Thanks 1
