Pocketing 2021 Cutter Comp

So I have run into this a couple of times now and can get it to repeat. When doing multiple pockets with the same tool the cutter comp does not turn off when moving from one pocket to the next. I then get an alarm if my first roughing move on the next pocket is small enough that any comp interferes with the move. It seems this only happens if free pass is turned on. This doe not happen in 2020 or previous versions. Could it be my post? It is one I have continually brought forward from previous versions. Never have had an issue before.

Code from 2020 comp turns off before move.

You are correct...the use of Spring Pass seems to trigger it..

Package that one up and send it in

I will also note with multiple pockets, if you uncheck the "Machine finish passes after roughing all pockets" That pocketing may be unusable as it turns on cutter comp on the first pocket wall finish and doesn't  until the end of the routine...so all other pockets roughed and finished with cutter comp enabled

How? i think I have done that once before but it was years ago.

Save the file, document the issue, create a z2g and send all that info into qc at mastercam dot com

I sent one in on the related issue of comp not turning off on roughing

Have you also had any problems with chaining using solid single edge. When I try it loops instead of just the single entity.

I don't use solid chaining  :)

This is how I prefer to work as well. Wireframe for every 2D OP. Every time. Organized by level and/or color, and with a medium-weight line thickness (makes selecting wireframe easier, when a solid model is also visible. It just makes it so much easier to control and adjust each individual operation, and adjusting a single feature on the solid won't dirty every operation...

I thought everyone tries to use solids as much as possible. I actually used to create wireframe and use that for chaining and changed to using the solid as much as possible. I though I got that from you JP. Of course I'm old and that could be my brain playing tricks on me. :stuart:

And as far as the comp issue goes...

Hi John,

This is now logged as R-23990 with your information.

I tested in our next version and it seems to have been fixed indirectly. I have started a conversation with the PO to see what has been fixed and see if we can get it ported back. This is not good!

Thank you for the heads up on this.

Regards,

You have to activate the edge process with solid edges. I use Solid edges all the time, but also use wireframe.

I do the same using a combination. I have the single edge only activated. Same as I have been doing right along.

Result full loop.

Same settings result in 2020.

I've had that issue a few times. I can't pinpoint what causes it though. I use solid chaining exclusively, unless I need to draw extra wireframe stuff.

2021 is completely different dialog, but the functions are about the same. Does take some adjusting to see what the difference is, but now that I have it figured out I am able to do the same things I have done since Solid Chaining was introduced. I may have 80-300 edges on some toolpaths. I have asked for the same partial ability in solid chaining like we have in wireframe chaining, but my request needs some more information to be processed. I got back word it works the same and sorry it doesn't and until I can take a hour to really detail the difference it will have to wait. I shared the Shortcut Letters for this on the Tricks and Tips recently since I was wearing out my mouse with all the mouse clicks.

I have currently 100 5 Axis curve operations in this current part almost every one of them have wireframe toolpath drawn for them. Use what you got and both serve me well.

ITs single entity because MC is asking you which direction you want to go.  With 2d chaining it can only follow the chain you created.  Its the reason I rarely use solid chain.

Not really with 3D chains in wireframe Mastercam can just as lost as it can with solid chains. That is where the Adjust and Previous come into play.

This is how I use solid edge with no issues. I need a loop then I switch to the loop.

So it can be set to just follow a profile along a plane instead of going down or up Z?  Because that was my gripe.

Change your selection to 3d.

If you compare the solid selection dialog between 2020 and 2021, the options were <face> and <3d> . In 2021 they are <cplane> and <3d>  I think that the <cplane> being on that dialog is a booboo and reacts just like <face>.

CNC is aware of issues using spring pass in pockets. I would definitely send that in.
