5 axis newbie

When it comes to facing all five sides of my block im creating planes for each face and chaining each one separately. Is there a beter way?

If you are using 5 axis drilling, which was merged with regular drilling you don't need to create a lot of planes, the toolpath is driven by vectors associated with the toolpath geometry, like a line or something.

 

For facing I've seen others use toolpath transform and rotate the toolpath rather than create 5 new ones.  I think that's what you are looking for.

If you aren't familiar with it, transform lets you duplicate toolpaths without copying them, by translating them along one of the plane directions or about one of the  plane axes.

You will have to give Mike the credit for all of this. I wasn't really sure about doing it and don't feel worthy to even have something like this done. I just want to help others and hopefully it will be helpful to others.

I agree with everything said above. I don't post a lot on here, but have learned a lot from Ron just from reading his posts. You have given me some Ah Ha! moments and helped me more than you can know. I have been watching the cam instructor series and look forward to learning from you for years to come!

Can anyone help  me out. Trying to rough with a curve toolpath or shall i say learn 5 axis programing. I don't like the entry and cant get it to do anything better then this.

Incorrect file. Missing my 4 depth cuts at .05

You have a holder collision, set your Lead/Lag Angle to solve this.

Under Linking - Go to Entry/Exit - Use Entry and Exit  curves.

You can extend the 3d Curve line if you want the tool to start below the part as well.

My cut pattern looks ok. As soon as I turn on collision control its all goes south. when I run verify without collision control I don't get any collisions. i, also trying to get it to stop just before the step at the top. Thanks ahead of time and hope to return favor some how some way.

Increase the tool tilt angle.

Also sometimes having the Collison controls set separately from Shoulder, Shank and Holder makes a difference. So first activate #1 with just Shoulder and see if that is okay. Then apply a #2 with a Holder and see if that makes a difference.

Also, I always use Collision strategy #1 for drive surfaces, and Collision strategy #2 for check surfaces. Putting both sets of surfaces on the same strategy can cause some odd behavior.
