Mill-Turn tool locators for milling tools

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to load a tool used in a milling operation onto a tool locator that is loaded onto a tool spindle, It seems I can only load tools used in turning operations onto tool locators. 424429523_Toolspindlelocator.thumb.png.0ec10e6605b2dd13edd0ab5faad4351d.png

Here I am attempting to load a milling tool onto a tool locator and it doesn't work, I can only load the tool directly onto the tool spindle. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Eric,

Milling holders are added within the ops, on the holder branch.

I am aware of this, I want to be able to use the tool locators as a "build up" to my tool, so that i can insert an extension if needed. Its very annoying to have tons of different versions of holders with different extensions to achieve this, it would be nice if it is possible.

Best way I found it to build the milling holders for Turrets in the milling operation. Then as you add them to the Turret then adjust their stick out. No need to get fancy here, just use the Keep it Simple Stuff (KISS) and you will be good to go. Tight areas or within .01 of the chuck or jaws then define to the .001" other than that roll with it and get it done.

With B Axis machine build your standard holders minus the Taper and good to go. Other true Verification softwares understand Gauge Length and allow you to define the taper and pull the connection point from the correct place. Moduelworks the engine being used was not setup this way in Mastercam and too far down the road to back up and fix it so we are where we are. I remember the meeting Tim Marksoki and I had with Rich Taft and the tooling group explaining all of this 10 years ago in Tolland. Oh well use what you got till the wheels fall off is al we can do.
