Popcket Engraving

Hi all,

I am working on a logo for a customer and he wants the outline filled in with a pattern. I don't have the engraving package but almost have it working with a pocket toolpath. The only problem I haven't been able to fix is the tool dradding across the pocket to catch other parts of the pocket. There's not many settings to work with and I've tried other paths. I'm getting close but needs a little more tweaking.

You can save your toolpath as geometry from the toolpath editor.  Then manually add a retract for those repositionings, then use the geometry to drive a contour operation.

Or another option would be to start with a contour with lots of stepovers to cover the whole area, or a larger uninterrupted pocket, and then trim the toolpath to the boundary of the logo, selecting "keep tool up".

Matthew, great suggestion, I saw that on a Youtube video once and forgot about it.

BTW, that's a lot of work but I can save it and scale for other products.

If you do my second suggestion, with a contour with stepovers, you could make it a swoopy wave pattern for extra coolness.

Use the old parallel or new raster surface toolpath's, take the shape you want and create a flat boundary surface, use boundary as containment.  Then add a 2D Contour around the perimeter to clean it up.  Define the tool as a small ball end.
