I'm hosting another YouTube Live session this afternoon, at 3:00 PM Eastern Time. I'll post up a link in this thread around 2:45 pm today, when I get the broadcast going. We'll mostly be talking about 5-Axis Trimming, using the Curve 5-Axis Path. Today we'll get into more of the Tool Axis Control options, and Collision Control.

Please do.

Protests? I would be willing to bet that most of the machinists and programmers who frequent this website, would not be participating in that. But since I have no idea what they are protesting, maybe I'm wrong...

Supposedly it's a worldwide thing, I don't really know the details.

1st I've heard. I guess I'm outta the loop.🤣

Just saw this about the session, that's a loop I wish I'd been in on!

Catching up now

No, the news is not reporting protest activity until after they occur, you can find it in the news now.

No thanks. I'm suffering from "Indignant outrage overload".

We live in the era of "look at me", and since I'm all ugly & sh*t, I don't wanna participate.

I have never taken a selfie, as I already know what I look like.

I'm not a big fan of have stranger's attention focused on me. Apparently, this makes me a misfit in today's world.

I'm OK with that.

Thanks Colin, I picked up a few great tips I was unaware of.

I think that you may have switched the behavior of copying planes during the last bit of the session though. Create relative planes links the created planes to the original, duplicate planes creates unencumbered planes that are independent of the original.

Yeah, I didn't want to get to deep into Plane Creation, since Tom uses a single "Top WCS, T/C Plane", for his particular machine.

Getting the part moved into position for machining is complicated enough, without having to introduce the complexities of the WCS into the mix.

I do typically use "Create Relative" for my OP10 and OP20 WCS Planes, so I can generate "Front", "Right", "Back", and "Left" views. I get around the "relative" issue, by simply locking the planes, after I've built them.

Duplicate is what I typically use to generate the "initial WCS Plane", and I go from there.

For building the "OP20" WCS Plane, I usually opt to use "Dynamic Planes", because I want to be able to choose "how I'm flipping the part over".

For most of my complex work, I will use 'Duplicate' to start the creation of my OP10 WCS, but then I'll build pairs of perpendicular lines, on their own separate levels, to control every single T/C Plane that I have to create for my OP10. That way, I can mark all of those Planes as "Associative", when I create them. That way, if I have to perform a Transform or Rotate Operation on my WCS/Planes, everything stays associated to the geometry...

That's pretty much how I do it as well, though I usually just use a layer named Indexes, with points for associativity.
