Is there a reason I wouldn't be able to reach mastercam.com from cuba?

I have only been able to log in once. Everything else works except that one site i was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Its a bit of a hassle because i am here for a month.

Trade embargo likely

VPN will let you skirt any geolocation issues.

That's what I was kind of thinking too, the embargo might have something to do with it.

I was able to log in once, which is weird.

Peter, do you know much about the history of the island of Cuba?

When Castro came to power, in 1958, the entire country was cut off from America (and by proxy, the world), under an embargo. This is why you see all the old 1950's cars everywhere: because they couldn't import anything modern.

You're not likely to see any CNC equipment, and I'd be surprised if there is much manufactured on the island at all. I could be wrong of course, because almost my entire knowledge of the Cuban Revolution comes from the Godfather movies, which actually do a decent job of showing how the island was overrun and then Batista fled. All the casinos were taken over and shut down, and thousands of Cubans and Americans lost their property through seizure by the Communist State. The old Jewish Man in those movies (Herman Roth), is meant to represent Meyer Lansky, who owned a vast criminal empire which he founded during Prohibition.

The real history of Cuba and most of Central and South America, is a sad tale of greed and corruption, going back to the time of Spain, Portugal, and England, ruling the world through the use of Naval Power. But we're also talking about the time of piracy, slavery, forced enlistment (British Impressment), no anesthetic, no antibiotics, almost no bathing, rampant superstition, and life expectancy was relatively short for most people. But I digress, lol.

Hey Peter, your homework is to watch all 3 of the Godfather movies, and also I highly recommend watching Master and Commander (of the far side of the world), with Russell Crow. It is a fantastic movie, with amazing sound and editing, and it really draws you into "living as a member of the British Navy", in the 1800's. The historical accuracy in that movie is really educational, and ten times more entertaining than just watching a documentary. But it feels pretty real when you watch it. I thought the acting was really superb.

I've seen the godfather part one actually, i kept falling asleep during part two, but one day i will finish the trilogy!!!

The owner of the establishment i am staying in is 70 years old, he talks endlessly about the history of cuba and the last shipment of brand new american cars that arrived before Communism began.

There are however evidently cars from the 80's and 90's that are made by Hyuandai so there has been some import over the years, but they are few and far in between.

The majority of what you see on the road are cars from the 50's i have gotten to ride around in a few and its awesome, we broke down in what I think was a 55 or 56 chevy, it was the middle of the night and the driver was able to get it going after half an hour or so, its amazing how well they manage these old cars!!

Some of these cars are so well kept they seem brand new!! It's like being in a movie, and all the horses and carriages make it even more sareel!!

I've also seen Master and Commander one of my favorites, I loved all of it, even better than gladiator! The whole privateer concept and the social dillema discussions between the doctor and the captain made it so thrilling!! (Im a bit of a movie buff tbh!!!)

I think i will have a go at finishing the godfather series, its been a long time since i saw the first one!!

Anyway the odd asian cars i see make me think some cnc machines might have made it in, maybe?!! But who knows!!
