5-AXIS Positional Calibration

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone. I have a trunnion table style 5-axis machine (Mazak VC-500A 5X) I noticed that when I chamfer a thru hole on one face and chamfer the same hole on the opposite face the chamfer is off on the opposite face. It's not concentric to the hole. The machine is about 3 years old and has never been crashed.

Have any of you developed a program to test to see if your 5-axis is off?

Can you guys share some ideas? Once I zero in on a good program to run I will post the Mastercam file.

I want to call the Mazak technician in but I also want to check to see if the problem has been fixed after he is done.

Thanks guys!

I set up a part on the face plate to interpolate the same hole in two different rotational positions.

I use marker inside the hole to see where it touches and adjust accordingly. Doosan has a spot in parameters where u also need the location input besides your Offset settings. they need to match.

There is a way to get the readout to show movement, if it is out, as u rotate the trunnion , but idk how.

There are WAY more knowledgeable folks on here about that machine than I...but...is the "Maza-check" function available?  Params need to be set properly in order for it to function as its supposed to...but the idea is Maza-check is supposed to help dial in these COR issues.  Set the calibrated ball where the probe can get at it and let it dance around for about 10 minutes.  Some run it weekly...monthly...seasonally...

I guess it's Mazaks version of Renishaws Axiset.
