New Machine

Our 2 of our kittys (Bridge and mycenter) have geared spindles which are kinda EH.  Our newest one I think is inline and performs better from what I hear.  Make sure if you look at them to spec the inline as it should be more reliable over time.

Otherwise Matsuura, Yasda, or Makino.  I like the Mam style machines over the mx series personally.  Our px30i is a champion.

If doing one offs, I also like hermles

We have a My Trunnion 4G. Its...ok for what it is. We don't do anything super accurate on it. Good luck roughing anything on it, ( for us this means tool steel ) its about as rigid as a cardboard box lol. The Arumatik control is okay but its a PITA to find relevant information on it since it "looks and feels," like a Fanuc, but it isn't really a Fanuc. We have never run it on the Mitsubishi control side of things so I can't speak for that. We constantly chase our center of rotation but that very well could be an "us" issue not a machine issue.

Matsuura or fanuc re did the overlay on the control. It is supposedly less laggy which is good because our newest 850 when you hit mdi you have to wait 3 seconds before you can type anything or it doesn't register.

Ok , Matsuura MX520 or Kitamuura Mytrunnion 4G for accurate medical and aerospace machining

Go 😉

Matsuura gets my vote... but I am totally biased. :D

Support is EVERYTHING in the 5-Axis arena and you have access to a very good resource network. :D

Besides that, have Matsuura, will travel out of region.

They are decent machines.

Talking about them in the same breath as Matsuura though is funny.

A Matsuura is a top end Bentley and a Kit is more akin to a mid-range Toyota, good not great.

They don't belong in the same comparison, most companies considering those two will almost always go with the Kit because they are more price conscious than they want to admit and putting it in comparison with a Mat makes them feel good.

My first machines I learned on, where Kitamura. We currently have 5 Matsuura spindles here, Accuracy is top notch. I have a 10 year old Hplus300 horizontal running 24 hours a day 7 days a week. And the machine repeats 10ths all day long. We used to use boring bars for accurate holes. now we just interpolate everything.

As for Kitamura, we recently removed the hx250ig we had here. I liked the Arumatik control, nice big screen for my old eyes. It worked well. My problem with Kitamura is they over complicate everything. And when everything is overly complicated, weird problems arise. So we were down a lot. And in Sacramento, there are not a lot of good techs. Matsuura pretty much runs the same spindles, tool changers, and most of the same proven components in all the machines. So repair parts are easy and plentiful. Dead spindle will be normally at your door in 2-3 days.

So we had an encoder issue on our hx250ig. Kitamura didn't stock parts for it. Mitsubishi had the parts. But it took us over 60 days to get the spindle from them. Even though it was in stock. They would not let us just put a credit card down and purchase it and get back up and running. We had to fill out paperwork on paperwork and more paperwork. It became ridiculous. 90 days after being down we finally get back up. Immediately. they start hounding us for payment. Which we already sent their payment out. We always pay when the bill comes in.  They kind of implied collections to us. We said fine, we will cancel that check. and write you a new one and send it over night. They received it, and all is good again.

6 months later, we get 30k removed from our bank. Turns out they did receive the first check. And deposited it 6 months to the day after we canceled it. Did you know when you cancel a check it is not canceled? Yea, that was news to us also. Apparently canceling just means 6 months. So they got paid twice, and about 120 days after that, they finally gave us our money back after argument and argument. We ended up selling the machine just so we never have to deal with Kitamura, or Mitsubishi again.

JP summed it up.

Machines come in different classes/ ranges, Yasda being the most accurate IMHO. Matsuura is definitely at or near the top along with Okuma and possibly Makino. More of a niche machine is a Kern but accurate.

Noted.  Thanks.  Most of our machines are Yasda's or Matsuura's, with some older OKK's, Mori's, and Robo's as well.  Unfortunately, our support on the Matsuura's hasn't been great, and hasn't shined a great light on the machines, in management's eyes.   I won't mention our resellers name, but its NOT James/Selway.  (I wish it were.)

I'm sure Matsuura could work out something with Selway to get me there. :D

Actually, I saw on another post that you said you were able to travel elsewhere, if there was a Matsuura there.  And I meant to ask you about that.

Will you be at IMTS this year?😁😁

Yeah. I'll be there from Tuesday afternoon ~2:00pm until closing, then Wednesday though Friday. I'll be in the Matsuura booth probably Tuesday though 1st half of Thursday and walking the show last half of Thursday and Friday.

You?

The dealer who shall remain nameless won't like it, but too bad so sad. Their technical staff needs to up their game in a massive way. I've forgotten more than their whole team combined knows about Matsuuras.

I won't be at IMTS this year, but if it's ok with you, I'd like to give your info to my coworkers that are going, so they can try to introduce themselves.

Glad you got it all sorted - and they say "bitmaking" is supposed to be the difficult thing....
