I use V4 and I like it alot.

I downloaded V5 for a trial and there is a lot more functions, but V4 does all I need.

 

I wonder if CNC will do more with there editor?

Personally I love the X editor, with the exception of the communications, but I do a lot of Post and VB script editing.

 

If there are features in Cimco that you would like in the X editor, submit an enhancement request to [email protected]

 

Besides communications, what does Cimco have that you can't live without?

Colin,

do this with the Mastercam editor.

 

Post a file and it opens in Mastercam editor, now open another file, tile Vertical. You now have two files open side by side.

 

In cimco you can now do a file compare between windows. The Mastercam editor does not have this feature.

 

To use file compare in Mastercam at this point Mastercam asks for the 2 files

 

I use file compare alot specially when editing posts.

File save as shows a blank, not the previous file name.

Does not show the total number of lines in the file.

Undo does not work after you save the file.

Does not retain previous files list.

Does not retain previous searches.

 

 

File compare from the editor does not work and does not compare files currently loaded in the editor, you have to go hunt them down.

File compare does not show line numbers, does not allow editting.

I also use cimcos file compare a lot. PSPad (a free programmers editor) has a similar feature but it is not adapted for nc use so it cannot disregard line numbers and stuff.

Done. I sent your requests into QC so let's see what kind of response we get. Hopefully we can get CNC to add these features in or purchase the code so that they can implement it in the X editor.

I agree, David. That's why we all use ExamDiff Pro.

It IMHO, is the best compare tool available. It color codes all adds, removes, differences, can be set to ignore changes like comments, N numbers, etc...

Also compares directories, which has savedsome stupid grag 'n' dumps...

Now that I'm done sounding like a commercial.....

I have to agree with the poll also, I do like Cimco V4 better than V5.

I love my Predator editor and use that.

I do have say that MC is doing a preaty good job of making there own.

I can see this helping them look at what needs to be added.

I have predator but haven't had time to get into it. I think you have to put a tool header into the program so predator can read the code. I used cimco in the passed and love it, the backplotting was easy to use and the file compare was great.

Interesting. Glenn, are you saying these are things do "not" work in CIMCO Edit?

I think Glenn is saying that these things cant be done in the Mastercam editor, but they can be done in Cimco.

Colin was asking what does Cimco do that MC editer does not.

I had to go out of town last week and thought I would be clever and purchase the new Cingular Mobile PC card for my laptop. After following instructions and rebooting my PC was pretty much toast. Anyhow, I'm going back to look through my messages (all 300+ non-junk messages, 1100 junk message deleted) and see if I can find your email. If you could resend it real quick that would help too.
