points from excel file to spline

Hi all,

 

A customer of ours wants to make a tracer lathe attachment. He emailed a MS Excel file with X and Y positions of his points. According to him, is is some 4th degree equation or something. Anyways, we need to offset the curve to compensate for the cutter, but to do that, we need to have the curve first. I realize I could make points and create the curve, but there are about 2000 points in his Excel file. Here is my question: Is there a way to import many point positions without having to type each one? A c-hook or other application? Thanks.

If the points are Cartesian coord. data (not Polar point data)...

You can read in CSV type data into Mastercam using: File – Open (select ASCII in the Files of type dropdown) and select your data file.

 

*First, of course you’ll need to export the data from Excel – save it out as a CSV file. *
