for milling , use variable helix end mill and dynamic mill method is by far the best way

i generally run at 650SFM ans .009 to .012 IPT at 12.5 step over and full dept cut

for drilling , OSG drill makes a wonderful HSS drill for SS304 (series 1900 VPH)

I've actually found that the OSG series 1100 drills are far better, Ex-SUS Gold version.

As for milling, yes, you want a variable helix cutter, I love the Hanita Varimill for SS, they are very tough and last a long time.

Jeff you are right about the OSG drill

Sorry,my bad

we do a job with 4500 1/2 thru hole in the same part, and the OSG is the only one that can survive 1 piece...actually i can make 3 part with 1 drill...

the closest competitor (Ghuring) failed after 500 holes

We're using a new OSG thru collant stub drill

here ..

One example..10-32 holes in a 304 ss weldment

OSG List 5500 drill Ø.177

1900RPM 4ipm G81 .800 deep

followed up with an OSG roll tap

the tech rep said to feed this at 7.8 ipm but

4 is working very well and is 3ipm faster than the OSG EX-Gold drills we were using.
