Obsessed with my WCS notation at the bottom of the screen. It has to say what I want before I will machine/design anything, even thou the View manager says everything's right. Also constantly turning on/off the WCS in operation manager to verify WCS is correct AND edit common parameters on operations before posting. I think a good programmer has to half crazy to do a good job. cuckoo.gif

eek.gif You guys just made me realize that I may actually be crazy (mentally)

-Open a file: hit alt1(top view), altF1(fit screen) hit escape then save headscratch.gif

-Open and close parameters: and even though I don't change a single thing...click save.

-Save before verify.

Among a few other ticks...now I feel paranoid.

Where did I leave that aluminum foil?

I force autosave using Alt-A constantly. (i never use autosave when "it" prompts me)

I'll shut down mastercam even when all is working fine. (i know a blip can happen at any time)

All our files are saved on the servers here. Locally I have 5 MASTERCAMTEMP folders setup and I'll send copies of the file I am working on to these temp folders. This way if there is a issue with the file and I save it...I'll have 5 copies of the file at various stages in hopes of finding a copy with out issues.

(i've been burned by saved bad files in the past)

The Mastercam backup utility will do this for you automatically..

System Config/Files/Backup

I save 10 incremental copies to C:X4_BAK

Its proof against crashes and the occasional

brain fart when you need to "undo" 15 or 20 minutes worth of bad idea biggrin.gif

I use "magic dust" before posting a program.

I always smoke a doob before programing anything important.

I refer back to this comment-

However any time I had tried the "reefer method" it lead to 2 - 3 days of bad ideas, usually starting with trying the "reefer method"

the only way to program wink.gif

My superstitions:

Program only off solids :puts flame suit on:

Save before verify/posting

If over 200Mb, switch to bootcamp instead of virtual machines due to Xgrid being dead

Daily VM snapshots

Solids on level 1, wire on level 2, containment geometry on level 3. Always!

Don't use tool 13 and 7

  • 2 weeks later...

I often save with a different name.

filename-1

filename-2

filename-3

so if I made a mistake, I can go back as many level as I want.

When I'm finish, I delete the files I don't need anymore.

Also, I often save to two different hard drive so if one fail, I'm OK.

Evidently you must have some OCD to program MC, based on everyone's "quirks".

I always check that the correct WCS, and T/C plane are used 2-3 times before posting.

Forget to change the re-number tool sequentially setting and then manually change every tool I use back to the correct number.

And I have to knock on my desk three times before I click the green arrow. tongue.gif
