Define irregular shape stock 8.1

In Mastercam (8) Verify I can only define my stock as a block or cylinder shape. BUT !!!

if I have an irregular shaped stock such as rough castings, I'm just out of luck. I heard that 8.1 added some inhansments to cover this. Can some of you Beta users describe what Ver 8.1 define irregular stock features are like .

Hi,

in v8.1 you can use any style of STL for an stock defination.

1. You rough in v8.1 a part in verify (in v8.1 it is much much faster, because they use for TrueSolid mode the new code from LightWorks instead the old Sirius code). When done, you can save the actual part as STL file. You can use this file for a new stock. Now it is possible to use a finis toolpath on the rought part.

2. you can use any type if STL file for Stock def. Write an STL file out and use it as stock file.

The STL verify works very well. It's well worth the wait.

You can also use the solids module to create

a solid model of a forging then save it as an stl file.

Once you are in Verify, you can use this stl file to define the stock. This works very well for machining forgings and castings

If i can simply define my stock simply by *.* STL ,then can I also add fixturing components such as clamps chucks & vises to the verify Yippiiiiiiiiii

But wait - there's more! Any file type that we normally support that contains surfaces or solids (i.e. IGES, .X_T, .MC8, etc) can be used as the Verify 'stock file' in V8.1. It doesn't have to be an .STL file. The verification process can save only .STL, though.
