Stand Alone 3D Cad File Conversion?

I am still using V9. Yea I know it's old, so lets not go there! The biggest problem is not being able to read in newer 3D CAD file types. Does anybody know of a stand alone product that will convert the latest Solidworks file into an older parasolid or maybe into a STEP file?

Considering you already own Mastercam, you lest expensive route would be to update to current version.

 

If you need it on a 2nd seat, consider purchase of Mastercam design.

choose filetype X_B

Hit the Options button

Center top is a "Output as" dropdown..

select a parasolid version comaptible with V9 (v14.1)

Save the file

Tom, I think he means he's getting files from customers that he can't open.

another option would be a seat of Alibre Pro for about $1K, but you'd be better off migrating to X5..

You've got 2 or 3 years tops before

it becomes very difficult to buy and maintain hardware that will run V9.

I used to know an old Smart Cam guy who spent his weekends prowling swap meets looking

for old Apple parts. He had a closet full of junked Apple's that he kept around for parts

He spent more time trying to keep his hardware running that he did programming.

It won't be too many years before die hard V9 guys are doing that

I am converting customer files not my own Solidworks files.

 

I know I should upgrade, but when the money comes out of your own pocket........

the low buck solution may be Alibre

It can't do SW, but reads and writes step files.. I don't know if it can Save As

older version step or not, but wasn't step an add-on you had to buy in V9??

you are rapidly approaching the proverbial rock and hard place.

 

You could ask your customers to Save As down version parasolid.. if they are easy to get along with

Why not purchase Mcam design lite? It has all the newest translators for a couple hundred dollars and no sim is needed.

Well I have pulled the trigger on upgrading to X5. So my conversion problems will be solved. My reseller has giving me terms that make it easy on me.

Now I just have to learn X5 .

All of us went through the interface change, just some of us did back with X, 5+ years ago

 

Stick with it, it IS better but is is different. The change WILL be worthwhile.
