Cleaning Holders/Collets

12 posts in this topic

I'm looking to purchase a solvent tank for cleaning our Cat40 Holders and ER Collets. Does anyone have a recommendation for a solvent/cleaner?

I would like something that evaporates but that usually means flammable.... I was also looking at this http://www.amazon.com/SEPTLS44282251-Natural-Biodegradable-Cleaner-Degreaser/dp/B002A0FBLG

But I'm afraid it will leave a residue and need to be blown off and wiped down every time.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Josh-

How about a parts washer with mineral spirits?

I clean my holders and collets every single time I remove a tool, and they are in excellent condition.

All I use is my air hose wink.gif

Josh,

We use automotive brake cleaner. Works a treat and leaves no residue.

Med scotch brite, spin the taper in my hand, wipe clean with a rag.

Ultrasonic cleaner all the way. Really great at getting that "paste" that builds from aluminum fines in the collet nuts.

I'm leaning towards the ultra sonic. What fluid do you use?

Thanks guys.

We use a mix of simple green & water....seems to work pretty good.

l&r is where this stuff came from. Can't find the container, but it's waterbased.

A cleaning cycle is 15 min, machine has heated tank and flow jets. I dunk everything in wd-40 afterwards.

I've used solvent tanks/parts cleaners in the past, but once you use ultrasonic anything else seems filthy.
