Stock to leave on check surfaces?

Is there a way to achieve this.

 

I am using raster to finish a P/L up to the standing core that still has.02" stock on it.

the core is way to complex to offset surface to get the .02"

Maybe using SHS Raster, with Containment Boundaries? SHS Raster treats all surfaces as drive. So you could tell it "leave .02" on the check surfaces, and it should only offset those surfaces, but not the regular drive surface.

 

I'm not sure it will work, but it's worth a try.

First create curve on surface. By doing this it will allow you to make a containment boundry around the standing core. You will also have to make another boundry larger than the block so the path stays between the two contours and doesnt cut the standing core area. There is a tool containment setting in the cut parameters page in all the hst toolpaths, select the inside option then set the tool offet feature right below that to .020" or more to be safe. Hst toolpath does not support check surfaces. At least that is what shopware has told me.

If HSS toolpaths don't support check surfaces - why is it an option to select them?

Brian, i can use check surfaces, but I need a way to have a 'stock to leave' on the check surfaces.

The last time I checked in X5 the 3D HST cycles supported check surfaces only for Raster, Spiral, Radial, and Waterline. All others treat checks as drives.

This should have been core functionality with the release of any tool path. 6 versions along with numerous patches and updates into the X series and still not there. This is really sad.
