No projections found

[Smit]

I'm trying to project letters onto a concave surface so I can mill engrave it with a small end mill. Mastercam keeps telling me no projections found, both with a solid and a surface. I'm not doing anything difficult, just projecting straight down in top c plane.

 

TIA if anybody knows what's up with this error!

 

I'm still using Mastercam X5.

are your surface normals pointing in the right direction??

it shouldn't matter, but doesn't hurt to check..

 

also try changing to some other construction plane then back to top.

I've occasionaly seen the labels on the bottom of the screen say Top.. but it wasn't really in Top

 

edit.... at try it in 2D and 3D mode as well

Close your file and reopen. I get this all of the time. Time to clean out the buffer.

It sounds like you might be using 'normal' projection instead of 'view'. Check your dialog box settings.

Restart, happens to me too, I never change my settings.

MC just does that occasionally.

Did you 'break drafting into lines" first

Edit > Trim/Break > Break Drafting into Lines

Sometimes I'll just project the toolpath instead of the geo.

This is can be an issue, although I have had it happen with a

plain drawn line, circle, or edge curve.

in X5 MU1 it works every time if you close the file first and then try the projection immediately after opening the file.

Thanks guys, I did shut down Mastercam and restarted it. The problem went away.

 

It always seems to happen when you're in a big hurry, eh?

I had to close Mastercam and reopen it. Just closing the file wouldn't work.

I find restarting mastercam fixes a lot of these weird glitches.

I agrre with closeting Mastercam to fix some problems. Every once in a while i can't select any geometry when starting a tool path. So I save- close and reopen Mastercam.

I just wanted to thank you guys for the closing and reopening suggestion. I'm embarrassed to say that I spent over a half hour trying to fix this in X9 before checking the forums. I never once thought to restart the program.

It appears this bug has been around since at least January of 2012. I'm holding my breath for a fix.......
