Spaceball

Is anyone on this forum using the Labtec

Spaceball for 3d motion control?

I noticed on the Labtec download site that

their Mastercam drivers are still for MC 7.0

Is this an issue?

It looks like a usefull device, but is it

worth $500?

As a side note, Labtec will soon be aquired by Logitech, but I don't know how that would affect Spaceball users.

Just my opinion but after usin one a few times i thought it was a pain in the a$$...

not to mention the price!!!!!

The spaceball works well, their are no specific issues with V8 however I would use the drivers found here: ftp://ftp.inhousesolutions.com/pub/Utilit...ball/Mastercam/

These are Spaceware V8.1 Drivers their are issues with the current drivers that make the spaceball not respond after a short time of use.

Spacepucks from logitech also work well and are a fraction of the cost of a spaceball.

I was very happy with the spaceball (3button) we had. Had some problems getting drivers to work with things like sollid works, but for 3d work, nothing like it!

Actually called a 'Cyberpuck' from the LogiCad3D division.

Take a Spaceball/Puck away from a CATIA or UG guy and you might as well cut off his/her hands, they use it that much. I've seen some really cool functionality but I would think it would take some getting used to.

Takes some getting used to? Took all of about 15 minutes for me.

And I'm STILL going thru withdrawls from not having one.

I have heard bad things about getting CTS from using them, tho.
