What is the difference between a Parasolid text file and a Parasolid binary file?

you can open a .X_T file in a text editor and read it ... not that it makes any sense

and X_B is binary.

An X_B file is normally a little smaller than a X_T of the same model.. but other than that

I've never really seen much of a difference

post developers use the psb format to protect their work from unauthorized copying

They take the the technically unique portions of their work and encrypt it in a binary file.

You can also lock the post to only function with authorized HASPS and NETHASPS

I believe anyone can encrypt a post. I used to have a utility for it... and it may still be available for download

from Mastercam support.

I've also heard of shops encrypting all their posts to prevent employees from making unauthorized edits

and stealing/sharing the company posts with the competition
