Data Server FTP Questions

Guys,

I just got a Data Server installed on a Fanuc 16 (not 16i) on a Mori SH500. Anyway, I can access the folder on a pc based ftp server and get programs in and out from the control. But would like to be able to do it the other way around. I know on the 18i, you can use an FTP Client on a PC to access the data server and move files in and out, haven't been successful in doing so with our other machine, but would like to know how. Anyway, does anyone know what the default username and passwords are to do this, or what you need to do to set them, or use this functionality. I am not dead in the water right now but my curiosity is killing me...

a) Use up and down arrow keys to highlight IP address field.

Input a number in the format 0.0.0.0 the number is

unimportant as long as it follows the correct format and

matches the IP address of the Ethernet communications

software in the host computer. We are currently using

129.1.0.7. After typing in the number press the [input] key

B) Arrow down to “USER”. This is the host computer name. We

use DATSERVE . Type in -press [input].

c) Arrow down to “Password”. Enter the same way as above.

Currently we are not using any password. This field is

blank.

d) Arrow down to “Host directory”. This is the directory and

path in the host computer. The path must be exactly as in

the host computer. We have created a directory called

DATSERVE on the “C” drive. This field reads “/DATSERVE”.

e) After all fields have been input. Press the [set] softkey. You

have to press the set key or none of the information will be

saved.

3) Data server setting screen-2. This is dataserver information.

a) From setting screen-1. Press the page down button to

display setting screen-2.

found on the face of the DataServer module inside the

control cabinet. This address consists of 12 alphanumeric

letters. Type in the address and press [input].

c) Arrow down to “IP address”-This number must also be in the

format 0.0.0.0. This number must be unique to each machine

so that the network can identify individual machines. we

are using 129.1.0.5.

d) Arrow down to mask address. Input 255.255.0.0

e) Again, press the [set] soft key to save all info.

4) Setting up software in host computer.

Note: This information is provided so that Mori engineers may

set up their own computers and have some idea how the

software works when assisting customers. However, Mori

Seiki is not responsible for setting up or making the

connections for customers’ networks. They should obtain

the services of a network administrator for this service.

We are using “LAN workplace 5” by NOVELL for our communications software.

a) Once the software is installed, open the configuration menu.

You are only concerned with “ADAPTER” and “TCP/IP”.

B) Open ADAPTER

Here you must know the brand name of the Ethernet

communications card you are using.

c) Click on the arrow to open the list of brand names.

Click on the one you are using. All other fields should be

automatically set once you choose a card.

d) Open TCP/IP/

“Responded” should appear in the blank field within a few

seconds. if it does not, the connection is no good.

c) Close IP resolver

d) Click on “FTP SERVER”

It will look like nothing is happening for 60 seconds or

more. During this time the computer is making the

connection to the DataServer. One way to check if it is

through, is to click “ file” on the upper tool bar. If it is

still working on the connection, nothing will happen.

When it is finished, the file menu will appear. The computer

is now connected to the DataServer.

6) Downloading a file from the computer to the DataServer.

Hi James,

I actually have a similar question. I have a Mori Seiki sv-503 with a fanuc 16i controller. Right now the only way i can load programs is to use FTP software from a remote computer. I would like to be able to load them right from my controller, but I'm not sure how to set it up to do this. Any information you would be willing to share would be great.

Thanks

As I understand the Fanuc Data server.

The Controller runs a FTP server a well as an FTP client.

To transfer fron the machine (get a file from a remote computer) you need to run a FTP server on that remote computer.

You can use the FTP server that is built into windows, or use one of the freeware versions. (I use Filezilla cause I like it and it is easy to configure)

I do use Filezilla as well, but I have to go to the computer, open Filezilla, and connect to the machine each time I need to transfer a program. What I want to be able to do is stand at my control and load the programs from there. Is there something I need to configure differently? I'm sure I am just not understanding something completely.

thanks,

You should be able to go both directions.

YOu need to set up the user name and password on the Dataserver Side then you put that info in FileZilla and it should go from PC to Machine. To go from Machine to PC, you need to have the host username and password, location it should look for programs like C:\Dataserv. The computer user's username (jdoe) and password (******) needs to be setup on the machine also, otherwise the PC won;t let the machine in.

Beck, does your 503 have mapps? If it does, it is a cake job to do it from the control, and actually is very easy to use once you get around how to use the functions. I could walk you through it sometime if you want over the phone. I want to do just what you are doing... How is your ftp client (not server) set up on the pc?

Are you confusing filezilla client with filezilla ftpd? You have to set up a ftpd on your "host" pc.

Do I need to run my machine through a router? The way it is set up now the CAT 5 cable from the machine runs directly into its own network card on the PC.

Huskermcdoogle- My pc currently has a seperate network card that is directly hooked to my machine. Are there any spacific settings you were wondering about.

If you can go one way you can go the other with the way you have your Network setup. Sounds like you need to setup a FTP server client on the PC. Then setup the fanuc settings for the data server so it can log into your newly created ftp server. James instructions explain how to set this up... If you have mapps..., you will need some instructions on how to use the mapps remote server screen.

Communications/Network Connections 101 ;) ; Unless you're using an Orange Crossover cable, you cannot connect one device to another via wire. You have to go through something else. Really, the best way to go is to plug from the machine into a switch or hub that is connected to your network, then you can access the machine from anywhere in the shop as long as you have the passowrd and username. Plugging directly into a router is not necessary unless you have the Dataserver setup in DHCP Mode and there is not a device on the network issuing IP addresses.

  • 2 weeks later...

We are doing something similar. We use a DNC program to pull the G-code file from our server to a PC. From there we have an FTP service setup and pull the file into the controller using a crossover cable. We have this set up on roughly 20 routers, but on a couple when trying to ping the PC from the controller we get an error. Ping service error [224]. I called Fanuc for support, but nothing they suggested cleared the error. Any ideas?

I've tried Filezilla and Windows 7 built in FTP client and am still getting incorrect username or password 530 error at the control.  It's a Makino V55 with the PRO3 (16) Fanuc control.  I've tried changing usernames  and passwords on both ends and still nothing.  can't get or put.  Ideas?  Also, is there any way to blank out the memory on the Data server board?  Is is possible that I have multiple passwords together?  it won't let you see the password once you enter one and leave the screen.  it's always blank when I come back to screen-1.

The password will be what you see when you first enter it. Are you trying to pull files from a server at the control or using a pc to "drag and drop" files on your Data Server? I've never seen an error at the control from a "drag and drop" but if that's what your doing check your Host Type or whatever your software calls it . We use FTP Pro. Standard Unix type works very well here.

Hello all

I have a Fanuc 32i controller connected direct to pc through Ethernet cable. filezila on the pc and name and password set I/O channel set to 9, ip address of pc is 192.xxx.1.142

and controller is 192.xxx.1.2. mask is 255.255.0.0.

I can see the files only when I first connect the pc to controller with Ethernet. I can create a folder but that is it . I can not GET a program or PUT. nor do I see those soft keys. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Do I need a cross over cable for this? I can only ping once form pc and/or controller. after that no reponse.

Thanks
