What do you guys use for quickly and accurately dialing tools to spindle center on lathes? Primarily Mill/Turn?

We use a co-ax indicator but it's not always easiest if we don't have the right collet or jaws. Also I was told not to use a mag base as it will sag and give erroneous readings

Any special tools for doing this quickly on both Spindle nose and 3 Jaw chucks?

Thanks,

-Josh

I'm with Heavy Chevy on that; for instances where that won't do, we have a handful of stepped split bushings that we made out of aluminum which have a big enough range of diameters that we can typically find something that'll fit the jaws on the machine.

We have an old Mazak, the square tools at exactly 1" height end up at center or close enough for what we do.

For our boring bars which are round we scribe a line on the chuck jaw with one of the square tools and eyeball the boring bar to the line.

Only 2 of us set tools on that machine, both have the skill to get it very close using that crazy method. Funny thing it has one of those swinging arm style tool setters and none of us can figure out how to use it :)
