Thread Pitch

Hey all you smart guys out there!

I have always believed that when a defined thread on any given drawing omits the pitch, it defaults to coarse. Am I wrong to assume this?

I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable making that assumption. Could end up badly for you if in fact it turned out to be a fine thread. I'd be contacting your customer for confirmation.

By memory, if the drawing/standards/spec state Metric to BS3643, then yes you are correct ie if callout states just 'M6', then a 1mm pitch is called for.

Can't remember for the UNF/C i'd have to look it up.

The old saying of 'If in doubt - Ask' comes to mind, so ask your manager/customer etc to be clear.

Any time I ever got a print with missing information I just gave it back to engineering and had them give me a revised one. Assume nothing, question everything is my motto.
