Hi Daniel,

How's things going - okay I hope.

I thought I saw the parameter before in a fanuc book - perhaps it was in an 0iMD book???

I have read through the 31i parameter manual and it says (page 314) :-

3 When a 5-digit or longer O number is used, the

option for 8-digit program numbers is required.

That only applies to macro based custom G/M codes.

Try changing Parameter 6 from 0 to 1

Leghorn,

It's a 31iA5 mounted in a Mori... Whenever a try anything with more than 4 digits I get a "out of range" message...

I contacted Fanuc to see what can be done... The MAPPS software can be a blocker... Let's see...

That CRAPPS interface is total $#!+.

There used to be a way to turn it off (not permanently, only as long as the machine is left on once the setting was changed), you should hit us a knowledgable Senior Mori AE and see what the super secret setting is. :yes:

One other thing, you may want to take a Gander through the keep relays. There may be a keep relay or data bit that opens up the number of digits. Usually there's a fair amount of configurability in there.

FIrst off, don't blame FANUC, blame your RokuRoku AE because he did not properly train you. How do I know this? Because you're having this discussion on eMastercam. Now that we have the formalities out of the way here's some real help to get you going;

In ANY FANUC 30i Series Control (30i, 31i, 32i, etc...)I have ever used, you are allowed to use up to 32 Characters regardless of how the file was imported (USB, CF, Ethernet or otherwise). If you want to continue using "O"12345678, then your format needs to be "<O12345678>".

Now, if you want to start naming your programs what they are (i.e. "<0123456789_REV_A_OP01_WIDGETXXXX>" you won't ever wonder what a program is again.

%

<0123456789_REV_A_OP01_WIDGETXXXX>(32 CHARACTER LIMIT BETWEEN THE <> )

(INSERT CODE HERE)

M30

%

To Call this as a sub, your format would be as follows;

M98<0123456789_REV_A_OP01_WIDGETXXXX>

or

M198<0123456789_REV_A_OP01_WIDGETXXXX>

Now, In the 30 Series controls, you are now able to directly access the program as if it were in NC Memory. You just change your device to Dataserver and make whatever program you want your main program. Done. No screwing around with subs.

Folders, yeah, I use them all the time, even on a Dataserver. I usually segregate by Customer, then part number, then by rev. Nice and clean.

Hope this helps your cause.

The problem we have is the .NC name. Can not FTP a file more than 5 letters long( 12345.NC). I have done it on other 30i controls but not this model A.

Hi Guys,

We have a Star SR20II Swiss machine 18i Fanuc control. we're using USB to load program into machine. it's able to extend program in Head 1 but  it can't extend program by using M198P**** in Head 2 of Sub spindle? Is there any parameter setting?

Would you please help?
