Cannot select solid, using create curves on all edges?

Is there a setting for this that I am missing?

(I can create curve on a single edge)

Rickster are you bring in a solid into MC or building the wire on a MC solid you made?

Do you know about the option to create the wire upon bringing the file in to MC is your importing?

Jay, import .stp from space claim

 

I knew that, but can't tell it to put the wire on a specific level already created in MC.

Which is faster, creating them on a known level, or selecting and moving them to a known lvl?.... LOL

(i'll check convenience and do time study, its one of our knew protocols here......... ..... .... . . . . . )

 

I import predefined levels from .csv files already created, to save time for all my mold components.

personally, I only add wireframe to solids when I need it to drive a toolpath.

Putting wireframe on all edges can really slow a file down if it's a big solid

+1000 When you got 200+mb files anything not needed is stripped out.

I am just using it for setup sheets I create in MC.

I opened a 350 meg file and deleted all my setup sheets

saved as and it reduced it by 1 meg....LOL

Do you use the solid layout function?

 

I may have 400 levels in some of my 5 axis programs so do that on some of my files can be 50mb of stuff.

Also have a look at the EA Manager, Enitity Attributes manager. It can automatically modify geometry attributes for you.

Ron, Is that an option in X6 or X7?

 

I am spearheading a huge development in my Engineering department

which I am Doing complete mold designs in either Space Claim, Power Shape and Solid Works

Then which I do all the 2-d geometry in MC.(all pockets holes setup sheets etc)

 

All while I find the most efficient solution

 

Then I am passing them down to my jr. Designer and new jr. programmer

where the resulting programming is done in either MC or Powermill, I let them

decide which to use.

 

Working pretty good since I am not doing everything in Engineering by

my self anymore, just mold design, R&d and Training

Rickster, if you are importing from a STP file use the option John Mccord is talking about. unless you are using the direct tool to bring from Space Claim to MC or back then have to go at it a little different.but use the EA manager still.

I have used Solid Layout since V7 not X7 and I have used it for years, but if you have a real CAD program might want to stick to that for your CAD drawings. It gets the job done if you have nothing else to use.

Space Claim does a nice job of Cad layouts.But it might be a comfort Zone for him Ron.

I can agree Tyler as It can see in the chaining Manger when there is a Solid present so why not the rest of the system and just have option always showing .

Tyler, I have always thought it weird you are only working with solids and you need to tell the system you are working with solids.

Jay, right now it is a comfort Zone.

 

I have been burning the candle on both ends and the middle

since I open the doors with this company.

This has made me choose archaic methods rather that using tools

that I have had no time in the past to learn.

 

I manage Engineering and the tool room and I have always had to design and program

while managing

 

BUT........ now I finally get to manage with no micro managers helping me.

I get to develop a new Engineering / Design / programming in my department

with other PEOPLE helping me.....

 

So now as I get things up and running I will have to learn all my design software

to the fullest not the 10% margin I have been flubbing through all these years.

 

Right now with Space Claim, I am mastering the Mould design end, then I will get to the

Cad layouts etc. also with Solid works and eventually Powershape.

 

The rapid prototype show must go on as I get my helpers and department

fine tuned.

yeah or failing that even just a hot key you can hold to activate solid selection. ie: shift to just select wireframe/chains.

 

Anytime I'm training people forget about it, or get confused as to why they're clicking it. I'm sure that's going to be change din the future
