Basic 5 Axis Post Processing Class

Happy New Year Everyone!

I wanted to take a moment and let everyone know that I'm putting together a class for 5 Axis Post Processing. This first 5X Post class will be a "basic" introduction to 5X Post editing.

http://www.eapprentice.net/shop/live-training/mastercam-mp-post-processors-5-axis/

In this class I'll be taking the Generic Fanuc 5X Mill Post, and configuring it for two different machine types; a trunnion style machine (table/table), and a gantry style machine (head/head). In addition to basic configuration, we'll be going over all the important post settings and learning how to control the post output using Misc values.

We'll spend some time discussing Vector and Matrix math, and create our own (very simple) 5X Post Processor from scratch, so you can see how the vector and matrix functions work.

Finally we'll spend some time looking at the processing of the Generic Fanuc 5X Mill Post, and examine which post blocks we can use to override output and add custom features to the post. This would include 5X Cutter Compensation, Dynamic Work Offset, High Speed Codes, ect.

This course will be geared towards Mastercam users that already have some knowledge of post edititing. A suggested prerequisite would be my basic post course "MP101", or hands-on post editing experience.

Like all Eapprentice courses, each class will be recorded and uploaded to the Eapprentice site so they are available to you forever as a reference.

We'll also be holding "Office Hours" sessions that give you time to ask questions about your own post edits, and receive help and feedback from me during these live sessions.

This class will be a great opportunity to learn advanced post techniques and understand how the Generic Fanuc 5X Mill post really works.

Thanks and best regards,

Colin Gilchrist

Colin,

I'd love to take the class. However I'm not a Mastercam customer as of now, but I think I still have the basic proficiency in MP... (Wrote PPs in V9 - 8-9 years ago)

My core interest is in matrix and vector math, so I wonder if I this is a paying class, if I could purchase this training for my own professional development. Is it possible?

Hi Colin,

Happy New Year.

I'm sure this will be another wonderful course.

How much is the class?

Hi Zack, we are still working out the details for the class, but currently I think the price for the class is $495. That may be subject to change as we get the content sorted out.

We are thinking of changing up the class format a bit. In the past my classes have been 2 hours on a Saturday, for 12 weeks. It allows me to present a ton of information over the course of the 12 week class, but it is a grueling schedule for most people to commit to 3 months of Saturday classes.

Our current plan (and we'd welcome some feedback) is to teach the Basic 5X Class in 3 classes. These would be three, eight hour days. (6 hours of instruction, two 30 minute breaks, and a 1 hour lunch)

This would also be a big commitment, but I think it would be easier to block out 3 weekends, than 12 weekends.

In addition to the Saturday class sessions, we would also hold several "Office Hours" classes to allow the students to ask questions.

Hi Daniel,

I would be ok with you taking the class, but almost half the class will focus on understanding the Generic Fanuc 5X Mill Post, and how it processes the NCI data, makes its calculations, and outputs the NC code.

All of the math we will cover will be performed using the 2D and 3D Vector functions in the MP langugage. So without access to a Mastercam Hasp, there won't be much opportunity to apply any of the lessons we'll be learning. (You may be able to port the knowledge over to another CAM system, but I couldn't with that, mostly because Mastercam is the only CAM system I know.)

Hi Colin,

Happy New Year.

I'm sure this will be another wonderful course.

Ara.

Hi Ara, Happy New Year to you also! It was a pleasure having you in class Ara. You asked a lot of really good questions, and I think both your questions and the solutions we worked out in class benefitted everyone in class, not just you. I'm looking forward to having you in class again.

I did a post class with Colin last summer. He does a great job and you get a ton for what you pay.

Mike

Thanks Mike! I try hard to provide as much value as I can with any course I teach. I hope you got a lot out of my past courses, and hope to see you in some future ones as well.

Colin, I just finished your post processor course and I'm looking forward to the new installment.

Thanks Taperlength. I think this next course is really going to benefit anyone that has a 5 Axis machine, or is thinking of getting into 5X in the future, and wants to learn about 5 Axis post processing.
