Hello Everyone. I am knee deep in a project and one of my others customers is trying to find a high end 5 axis guy. Good Paying very neat position. I have been interviewing people for them, but cannot help out for a few days with a new candidate. I put together these questions to help me get a fell for his experience. I would like to see what others think and if anyone had something to add to this list. Thanks as always for any help or suggestions.

Some Questions to Answer:

Head-Head or Table-Head or Table-Table in his 5 Axis Experience?

3+2 for roughing for Full 5 axis for roughing?

Swarf toolpaths where you engage the whole flute of the tool on an impeller or a Ball Endmill where your Surface/Keller Machine the Blades?

Vectors for controlling your tool Axis or write a macro to control them?

Cutting Hard Metals what is your preferred brand of endmill? Holder?

Cutting Soft Metals what is your preferred brand of endmill? Holder?

Experience on the Makino Machines? Fanuc Controls? Hands on experience problems solving at the machine?

HST toolpath Experience? Chip Thinning?

Setup Sheet Templates? Solids or Wireframe?

Solids or Surfaces for toolpath creation?

Do you understand what a picometer is? What is the Tightest Tolerance you have ever worked to?

He has a True Position Callout of .001 for 4 holes that have a +/-.0005 Tolerance on them with Max Material Applied to them. Do you make the hole smaller or bigger to gain bonus condition?

What is your understanding of DPD/MBD as it relates to D6-51991?

You'll be lucky to find someone who can answer a third of those questions.

Anybody who can, already has a job making big $$$ and isn't looking

I know I can't answer all of them

You find anyone yet G ??

Crazy, really?

I had to look up picometer. Glad I did though, learned something today.

Most of the other questions seem more relevant though.

I'd add experience with toolpath verification software (Vericut, CAMplete) to the list of questions, if it your costumer uses either.

Interaction is a big thing Ron.

If the guy's going to prog and run his own machine, or prog for someone else to run the machine.

If the latter, he has to be a good communicator I would think.

Also the obvious about pressure and deadlines, but also if they mind estimating/time studies (again depending upon the job this is).

A couple of mates of mine work in different places and are sh!t hot (in my books) but are always getting slaughtered for jobs taking 'too long' 'cus the estimators (who couldn't turn a washer) haven't a clue about programming/fixture/cut times etc.

Vericut and other items are good since the customer does have Vericut. They also got their posts for UG from ICAM so they are good there.

Picometer was a new one for me until I started contracting for this customer. That was a am I going to get a BS answer or the trust question. Happy to say the person answered every question very well and I recommend to my customer they consider moving forward to hire the person. The 3 Hour drive one way everyday was to much for me to consider hiring on with them. Besides having fun doing what I am doing.

Thanks everyone and Johnny Cash would be my choice.

Love is a burning thing
And it makes a fiery ring
Bound by wild desire
I fell into a ring of fire

I fell into a burning ring of fire
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire
The ring of fire

I fell into a burning ring of fire
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire
The ring of fire

The taste of love is sweet
When hearts like ours meet
I fell for you like a child
Oh, but the fire went wild

I fell into a burning ring of fire
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire
The ring of fire

I fell into a burning ring of fire
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire
The ring of fire

And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire
The ring of fire
The ring of fire
The ring of fire

+1 to Johnny Cash :)

Another question: Do you like donuts? Donuts are always a plus :)

+2 to Johnny.

15 years ago I was discussing previous work places etc with a guy just after he had got a job where I was working. I had only met him for less than 10 mins when donuts were mentioned. He said I don't like them, but I have no problem putting the hole in them (keeping a straight face).

We're best of mates still all these years later :D
