A success story

That's awesome. I've been working on getting people to look at things this way at the new shop and only when I produce results do they say....hmm.....maybe we should have done this sooner.

Way to go, I never really mind when I miss that fast of a show. I know it'll happen sooner than later at that production rate. :harhar:

I ws curious to see the difference in torque between a cutting tap and a roll tap

At such a small diameter it's going to be hard to tell. That is why I was using the 5/8nc one we use as an example.

I think with high quality coolant through form taps you can get the torque lower then a cutting tap in a lot of materials, but, in hardened materials you can't get over 70% thread. I think the 4340ht part we form tap 5/8NC in is only like 68% or something. But it's fast.

I recently did a job in the softest 304 I have ever encountered (we machine 2000-10,000lbs/month) tapping 1/4npt, absolutely could not get anyone's taps to work, had to switch to threadmills, which worked great but were probably 10 times slower.
