X7 Blend Question

Hi all,

Please see my attached picture. Its seems that my cutter will ride the edge of the cavity, which i wouldn't want to happen.

Any suggestions? I always have a hard time with Lollipop Endmills and blends.

What i have done in the pass is extrude the top face up 0.002" and then add the the surfaces created to the Drive surfaces and avoids what is happening here. But for some reason when i tried doing it now, on this program, it gives me a wacky toolpath.

Tough to give any real suggestions based on a pic alone....

How you blend curves are set up, the cutting tolerances, the filtering.......could be any one or a combination of several things

I think i was able to fix the issue of the edges.

I tried attaching the zip to go file but its too large. I can send to your email if you can provide. Any way one of you can take a look at let me know if i'm taking the best approach to this cut? There are two separate models, one for top cavity and one for bottom. One cut on G54 and the other on G55. I'm just concerned now about the undercuts.

I appreciate your time.

Nuno

By the way i found the Morph toolpath. Can i use it on a 3 Axis?

Yes, there is an option on the Tool Axis control branch

I have done it the past, with a lollipop endmill.

You have simply gotten lucky then on some geometry

Flowline, surface finish contour and a couple of the multi-axis paths are the only one that will undercut

I changed a depth setting on one of the blends to get it off the top of the part...waiting on that to generate

I may try something with a  half moon surface and a flowline and then project that down......a flowline won't currently work as you are most likely aware there a many different directions on all those surfaces

Still messing with this but I have an appointment that I have to run out for shortly.....

I have had zero luck so far.....

If you ask me, this feature and the way it's designed, to be done properly, needs to be on a multi-axis machine

One strategy that "might" have a chance is doing those twisted channels in their toolpaths and then blending the main channel along it
