Some people seem to be having a lot of trouble with MC2017.

We're running 4 seats here now and a crash a month is unusual.

I don't know why this is the case, but I'm not complaining.

I think tool database file paths might be the cause, but can't pin it down

We have 2 seats here where I work and we both get crashes very often-- at least once an hour.  We get crashes doing different things though.  I get crashes opening up verify very often while my co-worker crashes immediately if he has to bring up the create/edit tool window more than once per session.

I have been working closely with CNC on the tool crashing issue.....been a couple days for me and no tool editing/creation crashes

I think it's fixed....I do know they want to get it into the next update whenever that happens

Has there been a first update?

I've had to go back to X7 for my difficult  or large files

Why is it so hard for CNC not to just put an update every month or so with

what ever amount of bug fixes they have fixed in that time?

The tool manager crash issue has forced us to go back to X9. I honestly don't know how people continue to work through things like that. We simply don't have the extra time to waste dealing with crashes.

Because many people aren't experiencing it..

No one else where I work here has had the issue but I do.....it's likely something in the way I do things as to the way others do things....so it takes me into something.....

SO there are many people out there that don't see the issue

still using x9 cause I don't like the new ribbon bar style interface. I know eventually I have to start using 2017, so I've been tempted into start using it, but now this crashing thing

i'm hearing about will keep me on x9 for now.

Don't let the interface spook you.....

I was very vocal about my displeasure with it early on.....

Had to go back to X9 early this week....already I had to hunt for things

Ten seats of Mastercam of which two are at my home office. I had only 1 (one) Mastercam crash since running it for production (official release).

FOR ME it's been probably the most solid release ever.

But like John said, we all do things certain way.

We're running 4 seats here and I have one at home.

All running reliably.

One thing common to all seats,

Post and tool libraries reside on the network... not in the shared user folders

Temp files and backup files go to an SSD storage drive on the PC's not the user folders

I remain convinced that Windows permission issues cause 95% of the trouble people see with Mastercam

I know what you mean john. once I start using it, I should be fine. because I noticed even vericut is going the ribbon bar style interface.

All that means is that you've changed your habits.  Personally I think and hope that the whole ribbon interface thing will be a short lived fad.  I know it's the current "hot thing" in UI design, but all the documentation and studies I can find say that while it's an improvement for new and infrequent users of applications of low complexity, it slows down experienced and intensive users of applications of high complexity.  I'm sure some can adapt more readily than others, but I've been using keyboard as primary interface since '81, and that's not going to change easily.  I know you can get at things with the keyboard in '17, but they've made most things more difficult and time consuming to get to that way.  It's like they've reversed the steering on my bicycle and told me just to get used to it, because once you learn to ride it it'll be hard to go back.

And yes, the less experienced can learn a backwards interface more easily than the more experienced.

I can crash 2017 almost at will.  might be my video card but it is a quadro 4000.

Import an STL you made off your Verify.

highlight it and right click and go to colors....

Then select more colors..

This crashes me 50% of the time.

Almost every STL from verify when used as a stock model and run through verify for the second time

is hollow.

I have to filter it twice...

Save the stock model of the imported STL as an STL,

then I can use that as a stock model and the verify model then is solid again.

This is so weird...wonder if there is a setting somewhere I am missing?

i just tried color change and it works fine here.

The same goes with hollow stl files.

I used to have them a lot in x6-x8? Rock solid since x9.

I use solid models and stl files a lot, sometimes several in one file.

Strange

I've experienced the more colors crash..

Doesn't happen all the time, I've noticed after open for a awhile, sometimes you click more colors and nothing happens, then it crashes

Ya I am thinking that it is the video card.

Perhaps there are more problems with the video drivers out there than people realize and some of the crashes are related to the video card.

Now, in the tool manager there is that little active X window where you can zoom in and out on the holder and tool.

So maybe all that gets weird in certain conditions/machine builds.

ya doc it hurts when I do this....

Well then don't do that!

hahaha...that's what I do...I avoid more colors like the plague...unless I have saved. because it is a perfect way to drop the thread.

And yes it does seem to happen after you have been going for a while and the undo/redo buffer is loaded up..

that is why importing an STL seems to do it more because those millions of polygon segments made from running the opti paths just have massive amounts of data.
