Deburring machine

Recommended Posts

The shop I work at is considering a new deburring machine, (Vibratory type), It's a small 4 man shop, and we do mostly stainless steel, aluminum, and steel parts in quantities 1-1500 pieces.  So size wise are looking at a 6 to 8 cubic foot.  The owner has done a lot of research on different brands, styles, etc., but still wants some more information.

Can anyone give their recommendations on what brands, styles, you have experience with?  And the reason why you like, dislike any of them?

I have worked with vibratory and high energy rotary style. They each have their pros and cons. There are many types of media and systems. The one thing for sure is that it is very part specific. Even in the same materials, same sized parts with different features will have different results. I would recommend giving any possible machine vendors a range of sample parts and have them test them for you.

Good advice Doug.  There are no local machine vendors that have demo machines in our area.  That is one of the reasons we wanted more advice from others who have actually used a model, or a certain type of machine.

We are located close to Portland Oregon, and just attended the tool show last week.  And talked with a vender there.  We did NOT come away with the answers we where after.  (HE WAS NOT A VERY GOOD SALES PERSON!)

We had a specific part we needed deburred, so we sent some sample pieces, via our tooling supplie,r to Burr King. They returned the deburred parts with a recommended machine, media, and solution to use. We couldn't be happier.

So which one is it?  A Burr King?  Size?  Part material?

We know that the media changes with different materials, etc.  We are a job shop that does all kinds, and shapes of parts, with different materials, etc............

Looking for something that will do a large range of parts.

We have the Burr King Model 15 with filterpak 4001 http://www.burrking.com/catalog/p-100028/model-15-vibra-king-medium-bowls-combi-paks-1.3-cubic-feet . We are using ceramic angle cut cylinders (ACC50A) for media, and BKS-60 solution. the parts vary between 4" and 10" long and roughly 1/4" cross section. Basically Swizzle sticks. We tested some parts in a model 45 Vibra King chamber, but did not get good results with this particular family of parts.

Are you looking at bowls or chamber/trough type?

Trough will fit larger parts but bowls are best for small.  We have this https://www.moleroda.com/product/rosler-mini-bowl-60-vibro-automatic-polishing-and-de-burring-machine/

and it is great for small parts. The biggest part we rumble is around 5" square, and we put 4 in at a time - any more and they'd beat themselves to death.

What is good about this specific one, it has a big lip at the top - it really rolls the stones over.

It has a timer and we connected into the water system with a solenoid so when the timer goes off it cuts the water.

We looked at this one which is nice but better for larger parts https://www.moleroda.com/product-category/rosler-vibratory-finishing/rosler-vibratory-finishing-new-vibratory-vibro-machines-for-sale/rosler-vibratory-finishing-new-vibratory-vibro-machines-for-sale-rosler-trough-machines/

Media - we use this https://www.moleroda.com/product/fine-plastic-media/ which works well for ALLY but we also use it on STAINLESS turned parts - although they maybe machine deburred (chamfer tool) they still have a keen edge, and this rolls it nicely. Also good for lathey parts - finishing thread od's if they're a little sharp

Edit ref stones - use on ally as well as stainless - DOH!
