Milling head simulation

Hello,

I have a question about how you would simulate the head on a 5-axis machine. The machine has collision detection so I know the head won't come in contact with the chuck body or jaws.

I would like to know if I need to add extensions before I put the program in our database and create appropriate setup sheets.

How do you this?

Is there a way to utilize the head in the tool tab of a program?

TIA.

Greg

If the Machine models are not available, or you only need to check some toolpaths. A quick and dirty method I've use sometimes is draw the head and add it to your tool holder Assembly.

You can only define rounds(which should be fine on your mazak since the head is likely roundish), but it works quite well and Verify will pickup any any collisions if you have your vice/chuck defined inside Mcam.

What component do I add the geometry to?

I tried everyone in the upper tool group and I don't get the "manually move axis" to become un-grayed out.

I'm doing something wrong, any ideas?

I went though the "add geometry to a machine def".

Hi Greg,

I believe that you need to go into the Machine Simulation Configuration, which is separate from the Mastercam Machine Definition. You may have to 'add' the button to your interface by Customizing it, in order to access the correct function. I can't remember if the button is on the default interface for Mastercam.

In that dialog you'll be able to build the Kinematic Tree for your machine, and configure the Travel Limits.
