FILE SAVE VS AUTO SAVE

i HAVE A DELL LAPTOP WITH i7 PROCESSOR 16GB RAM NVIDA M1000 VIDEO,

RUNNING MASTERCAM 2017

The problem I see is when I do a file save it takes about 20 seconds to save file , This is NOT a large file at all.

But If I turn on auto save after every operation in my config the machine saves right not now NO time lost waiting to save ...

But really dont want to have auto save on ...

So can someone please explain why this is ?

All I can come up with is maybe auto save only adds the next operation to the existing file but dont over write the complete file ... { just my thoughts }

I was told its do to having a spinner drive vs SSD drive , thought it made sense till I saw how well auto save worked ...

Thanks in advance ...
