SpaceClaim CAT translator, then x_b v28 out

The model itself was a watertight solid, but there were 100+ extraneous surfaces which  I deleted

before exporting the parasolid

MC2017 reports it's a single closed solid

This one looks great too, thanks gcode!

On a side note, if you get a lot of Catia type part files you can always contact your reseller and purchase a Catia Translator and read in Native catia files.

We have the MoldPlus CatV converter here.

It works well, but I did not try it on this file

I'm going to have the powers that be look into that as well as SpaceClaim since gcodes model came  in good. Not sure what JParis used.

Spaceclaim you must purchase the Catia Translator Separate. The Moldplus is much better for Mastercam as it will read the DPD/MBD if present in the CATIA file and you stay with one system.

Spaceclaim can translate just about any file format you can think of and has some really amazing model repair tools

but it is expensive, both  to purchase and to maintain.

Its supposed to be a really powerful CAD modeler as well but I've never used it for anything more than file translation

which it excels at.

As an experiment I tried this CAT file with the MoldPlus translator and MC2018

When set to convert the CAT file to a solid, it failed.  It created surfaces and about 25% of the model was missing.

Then I told it to import the CAT file as surfaces and they all came in, but at least 50% of the surfaces had their surface normals pointing inwards.

I used the Surface command "Orient" which quickly oriented all the surface normals outwards,

then the solid command  Solid from Surfaces.

This yielded a closed solid model.  I double checked to make sure its not a sheet solid,  it is a closed solid.

So..  Spaceclaim did it  very easily .. import to SpaceClaim ,export as X_B, import into Mastercam done..

Mastercam can also import native SpaceClaim files, but old habits die hard

MoldPlus took more work, but got the job done in the end.

ITAR is International Trade in Arms Regulations.

It is a mandate from the Department of State for Military and other Aerospace parts that are restricted from Export. (Note: with Electronic Files, simply showing the contents to a "Foreign Person", even if they are in the U.S., can constitute a violation.)

The other regulation mentioned often is E.A.R.; Export Administration Regulations.

Both ITAR and EAR have to do with the "export" of technology, parts, or information about commercial or government programs.
