WHICH ONE???

Recommended Posts

Boss of mine is wanting an Opinion on choosing between two Lathes.

Please throw in your .02

Tsugami M08SY turning center with Back Spindle and Y axis

Takisawa TCY-200 twin spindle Y Axis

I have worked with Tsugami's and Run their Swiss Style Machines. And Like their Controls.

But No experience with a Takisawa. Controls look very Busy.

Concerned about overwhelming operators also.

I suspect this is really an apples vs oranges comparison....

Tsugami is a well respected MTB.....I am guessing, I've never heard of them before, Takisawa is a Chinese knock-off....

Tsugami is almost certainly the better day in/day out machine

I owned a Takisawa 8" slant bed chucker about 30 years ago

Bought it new and ran the cr@p out of it... 24 hrs a day 6 days a week for about 15 years.

I sold out in 2001.. As far as I know it is still running today

It was a simple and solid machine... money well spent

That has very little bearing on a new twin spindle Y axis 30 years later though

Same here, we had a 6 inch chuck lathe and it ran everyday for 20+ years. Be careful though, they have the higher end machines, which are made in Japan. The lower end of the spectrum they are made in Taiwan. If you you are comparing a Taiwan made machine to the Tsugami it would be apples and oranges.

We have only had the Tsugami product line in this office since mid 2013. If you had a turnkey before then it would have been Rem Sales direct or the previous dealer. I don't work much with the Tsugami line, most of my time is Okuma time.
